Hold over and dial

Be careful if you do swap between dial and reticle. It is easy to forget to reset the scope to zero and end up holding over with the scope not zeroed.
This one has bit us all at one point or another. Especially if the scope doesn't have a zero stop or the ability to adjust the turret to show zero where it's zeroed. It's a very bad feeling to prepare for a shot, realize your turret doesn't look right, and have no actual idea of what it is supposed to be set at for your zero.

I will always dial on big game if I have time. It is most accurate. On varmints I typically dial elevation, but will hold off for wind or part of the wind. Holding off on both axis is something I try to avoid as you are then not actually aiming on a line at all and so precision goes down.
