Hammer Vs Hornady Vs Barnes?

Barnes are the best out of these three for me.
LRX gave me better ballistics and the tips come inserted. Now my use is only in 30cal. With that said animal application plays a part as to what grain and caliber. These vs threads will have too many variables for simple answers. Heck I still use some dated old Barnes blue pills.

I went to there shop a couple of years ago and watched them making the hammers some thing about watching a rod become bullets is just plain awesome. The groups they were getting at 1000 were fantastic. I'm going back this summer and hope to pick up some for each caliber again. So yes I like the HAMMERS.
That would be pretty neat to see! I haven't talked to Steven is a year or so. Are the tips installed now? That for some reason bugged me even though it really didn't take long to install them.

I have been toying with the same subject. The wife bought me a howa in 6 mm arc for Christmas.I had some sierra 80 grain SPBT blitz and loaded them with 31 grains of Hodgdon Lever evolution no load development. It shoots so well i shot ground squirrels with it out to 300 yards this weekend. With all that is has me thinking of 80 grain hammers to get a little more terminal performance.

We don't have ground squirrels here but I bet it'll be hell on marmots too 😏
Glad to hear yours is shooting so well. I've never owned a Howa that was an excellent shooter and was hoping this new one would be more of the same. I'm really excited to try it on deer this year!

I forgot about the Apex option. Chatted with them at length a couple years ago but went with Hammer cuz they were still in the R&D stage with their 6mm offering then. I'll have to give them another serious look.
If i recall they say a minimum muzzle velocity for stability is 3000 with that one at 7.5" twist. In my 20" Howa mini thats a maybe.

Im gunna try some McGuire Copper Rose bullets this spring in mine.

The 95LRX found wanting below 2200fps for me. Worked good down to that number tho.

Im shooting the Cutting Edge 88gr MTH right now but nothing to report terminally yet.

I have no experience with the Absolutes but am wondering if the 87gr might be a solid option too. With that bore rider technology, it might be a 3200+ option in my 22" barrel… I'll have to call and chat with Steve about what powders to use.
