Hammer bullets

Having a problem seating the Hammers; the tip is getting stuck in the seating die. Needed pliers to get the bullet out. Spoke with Redding. THey are going to sand and pollsh a seater cap and send it to me. They think that will cure the problem.

How long ago did you get your Hammers? We changed the tool inserts a few months ago. In doing so the is less tool marks or roughness on the bullets finish now. This seems to have remedied the occasional seating dies that would hang onto the bullet. The radius drive band design that reduces contact in the barrel also reduces contact in the case neck. If you increase neck tension by sizing without the expander in your sizing die this may give more grip on the bullet to make it stay on the case.

I am sure that the new seater along with the smoother finish well solve the problem. Let me know if the problem persists.

When seating my 166 gr. HH's, I do get a noticeable semi-circular seating die mark around the tip of the bullet. Doesn't seem to hurt things but doesn't belong there either.

I have gotten rid of that by bedding the bullet in the seater with JB weld. Then the seater matches the ogive and doesn't just touch at one point. Our very soft copper shows these marks easily but we'll worth it for the terminal performance.

Considering bullet choice for my 338 federal; should I go with the 186 grain bullet that gets about 150fps more or, should I go with the heavier 213 grain bullet? Weight vs. velocity?

I just ordered a box of 338 186 grain bullets, hopefully they won't stick into the seater die like the 213's. Unfortunately I've lost the box of 213's so far nine of the bullets stuck to the point where I had to pry them out of the seater die with pliers. Needless to say the bullets can't be used.

I think this has been remedied when we changed our profile inserts. The bullets now have a smoother finish and we are not seeing the "sticking" in the seater like we did. It was odd as we did not see it often just now and then.

Give me a call when you get a chance so we can figure out how to replace your 213's. 406-261-0010

Let me wait until I get the new seater cap from Redding, then I'll know if the rest can be used or if they are all part of a bad batch.

Thumbs up for service from Hammer bullets. Got my seating cap back from Redding, unfortunately the 213's are still getting stuck in the seater cap. Spoke with Steve at Hammer bullets, he's going to exchange this box for a new box of 213's. Great to be able to talk to the owner of a business and know they'll stand behind their products 100%.

Thank you sir. Does neither one of us any good if you can't use the bullets you purchased from us.

Steve:

I'm going to Africa for a plains game hunt, using my 270WSM as well as my 338 Federal. Which bulllet, the 145grain or the 156 grain would you recommend for my 270WSM?
