Gun works rifles

I would call Gunwerks, they guarantee them with their ammo. If it honestly won't shoot sub moa they should take care of it for him. He may have to send it back to them but the customer service I have had from them has been great.
As far as "taking care of him". He bought an $11,500 rifle. Gun and scope only. It had a kahles 525 on it and he hated it immediately (less than 10 rounds through the rifle). He asked if they would take the scope back and credit it towards another scope. They simply said no. The scope yours. But if you want to buy another scope, we'll mount it for you.

That's pretty trash service to someone who just over paid by about $3k for a rifle/scope. And a returning customer at that.

I have another box of ammo I'm going to run through it, double check zero and drops at 500 and 800. I'll know more about it's capabilities then. And I'm leaving the barrel dirty. The fact is, it's a light, short barreled, magnum cartridge, shooting a heavy bullet, with a crap muzzle brake and it kicks like a mule. That's a recipe for a non consistently accurate rifle. Whether it's me or the gun at that point. I don't think many people are
laying down and putting 10 shots into .7" group with that platform.
It looks like a Clymr, is that correct? If so I have that rifle in 6.5 PRC, same muzzle break. It currently shoots less than half MOA at 600, right about 2-1/2 inches. That is with my loads as I did not have them put the package together, I just bought the rifle and had my own scope to put on it! Unfortunately that is as far as we can shoot this time of year at the range I belong to. I haven't had it long enough to run it out to 1000 but will give it a go once the snow and ice disappear. I would agree with you that that platform in a 300 PRC probably has some serious jump when the trigger is pulled. I have a 300 PRC in a CA Traverse and it jumps pretty good and it is considerably heavier than my PRC. Good Luck with it and let me know if you get the bugs worked out, if not I would definitely give them a call.

I have to agree with you on that one!

Yeah, he won't be buying another one. And it could have been easily remedied with little effort on their part also.

Don't get me wrong, I have a BR4 and freaking love it. And I've called gunwerks several times with questions and they have also been great. I don't dislike gunwerks by any means. But to me personally, their gun are underwhelming compared to my customs. And that scope issue for my buddy seemed pretty dumb. Cost them a well paying customer.

Great rifles. A lot of the cost imo comes from the fact that they outsource very little in regards to parts. Being they design and manufacture their own parts creates more cost that needs to be covered.

Can only buy their stuff through them. Don't think I've ever heard of anyone that was unhappy with one of their rifles.

I'd agree with that. Could easily build a better custom using top notch parts (manners. Lone peak, proof, TT Trigger, Zero Compromise / Tangent Theta) for far less than what a gun works build would cost.

Personally I'd rather build my own rifle than pay GW for one of theirs

Anybody have experience with Master Piece Arms "MPA" & their Ultra Lite Hunter chassis?
Yes, I have two of their chassis on hunting rifles. I shoot all my rifles off of a tripod, even when hunting. I love the integrated arca rail. However, there are lots of rifles that have built in arca rails into the forend. They seem to balance very well for me.

Custom is being used pretty loose here. Guys are gathering generic over the counter parts and having a gunsmith assemble them and calling that a custom build. Search on the forum and a lot of these self assembled or custom builds by a smith will have thread after thread on feeding and/or headspace issues.

That's exactly what a custom is. A conglomeration of parts chosen by the user and then assembled into a working rifle. "Generic" "over the counter" barrels, stocks, triggers, actions, rings mounts, optics etc.

Exactly what 99.9% of rifle builders / companies do

Are you manufacturing all your parts in your garage?

If you're having headspace issues then find a smith that knows how to use a go/no gauge.

custom is using parts everybody buys from the same suppliers and assembles the same way from the same smiths?

No I guess custom is manufacturing all your own parts and then assembling them into a rifle that nobody has…. or wants

I mean you could buy all the parts that nobody wants and then use as smith that nobody wants to use to build a rifle as well. Be a trash build but Atleast you could cal It a "custom"

Seems more custom than a "production" rifle?
