I own a Ruger Mark II in 7mm Rem Mag.. This gun is over 10 years old and it has been a good shooter since the day I bought it. It is not particular and will shoot almost any good load into less than one inch, it also has a long throat and when loading it this must be taken into consideration. I am saying this to say that my loads maybe too hot for another gun. I all ways have to use more powder that the manuals say to achieve the stated velocity.
When I started loading the 160 Accubonds I used Hodgdon's 26th Addition Manual as my guide. Their data for 154-162 grain bullets gave a starting load of 71.0 grains of H1000 for 2983 ft/sec and a max load of 72.5 for 3038 ft/sec.. Even with the long throat in my gun this was quite a hot load. I got 3000 + ft/sec with 72.0 grains. I then dropped back to 70 grains for 2950 ft/sec..
Since my early loading I have looked at many Manuals and saw that Hodgdon was changing the data for H1000 and the 7mm Rem Mag. In fact the Hodgdon's Annual Manual gives only 66 grains as a max load for only 2839 ft/sec.. Speer's 14th Manual lists 69.0 grains for a max load at 2936 ft/sec..
I am say all this to say get a good Manual and follow it. Start low and go slow, looking for signs of too much pressure.
My gun shoots very well with 70 grains, RP cases, and Mag primers. As stated this may be too much for your gun.
