Flagstaff AZ human caused, again.

Retardant doesn't just get dropped on the head of the fire. Competent strategy & tactics often determine that the best point for establishing fire/retardant line may be quite a ways in front of it. You not understanding that fact makes me question your knowledge and experience. I am a structure FF and a wildland Engine Boss. None of what you guys claim in this thread matches the reality that I have experienced.
It just never ceases to amaze me how every thread on this forum devolves into a conspiracy theory about absolutely everything. Hard working firefighters committed to training and trying to do good and you guys have to have a conspiracy about it. You should be ashamed, but I am sure that you are not. The best thing we (public safety and medical professional) could ever do for the longevity of this country would be to step aside and let you conspiracy theorists handle your problems yourselves. Dont' want to get vaccinated? Fine, stay home if you get Covid. No hospital bed, no ambulance. Don't like how the Type 1 team handles that wildfire? Fine, put it out yourselves. I would absolutely love to see that.

We are a city fire department surrounded by federal land, so we have initial attack responsibilities and, like many other western departments, we deploy around the country to assist with structure protection and wildland fire suppression. You're probably right though, I only have 15 years experience, so I probably don't know much..... But yes, I am very much looking forward to retirement so that I an stop helping people like you. I'm over it. Your house can burn to the ground for all I care.
Your blanket statement that painting a line several miles ahead of the fire being done for some conspiratorial BS reason, is just that, BS. Which was the point of my statement about being vaxxed for Covid. It's like the government (you know, FF's, school teachers, police, military, etc.) can't do anything right according to most folks on this forum. And "we" (gov't employees) must all be in on some big conspiracy. It's nauseating, laughable, and pathetically ignorant at the same time.
Just for clarification and to gain knowledge I have a few questions. Do you make additional pay in and above your base salary when you are assigned to assist those outside agencies? Does the rate change depending on who has control of the fire and what it gets officially designated/typed as? Do you get more OT, Travel, Per Diem etc. to increase your personal income while deployed Does your department, agency, city, etc. etc. make money or get paid for the personnel, equipment, administrative costs, etc. etc. at a higher rate than it actually costs? Do you get paid the exact same if you are on standby, waiting, or deployed sitting on your fire truck eating some of the best made, donated, and free at no cost to you or your agency food and drinks?
If you are really done with it looking for retirement (on a public pension you paid less than half into with possible premium Medical coverage you paid maybe 10% into) and feel others homes, property, etc. should just burn up because they disagree with you why are you still getting paid at the same job?

Some good questions. I'll answer what I know. I'm not an "admin", so I don't know all the details about where the pennies go. We often deploy for two weeks at a time. We do get paid for drive time. On the fire, you work shifts and during your shift you're getting paid whether you're in a meeting, digging line, driving, attending briefings, whatever. I have only ever deployed on Type 1 incidents on USFS land. Only deployed twice and found it to be not worth the money. The city I work for does make money when we deploy. They get paid $XXX for a certain resource, which is usually either a Type I structure engine with a crew for structure protection, or a Type III or VI wildland engine with a crew. What they get paid is definitely more than they're paying us. So yes, it is a money maker for the City. A lot of departments in rural areas will use it as a way to make money to help fund their department, so the locality benefits from the deployments.
I am done with it and will be retiring within the next 36 months. I will miss helping people who truly experience an accident or misfortune that they did not bring upon themselves. I will not miss helping people who suffer the repercussions of their own stupidity. I will not miss helping people who think that firefighters are part of some idiotic conspiracy. I will not miss helping people who call me for help and then want to tell me how to do my job. And I will not miss helping idiots who think that firefighters get paid too much. I do get a pension, which is a good thing because I make less hourly than I did when I was a framer/carpenter.

Oh, and yes, we get OT when deployed. As you should when you work 12 hr shifts 13 out of 14 days in a row away from home and sleep on the ground in a tent and eat crappy food.

Wow your agency must be an anomaly. I retired two months ago with 32 years gov job involved from incident command to shovel work including private contractors.

Rest assured I know full well the game of money and ineptness involved in "wild fires".

Do you feel the same about the aids virus, unwanted pregnancy, drug overdose, etc.? No bed no ambulance? They brought it upon themselves with bad choices right? Or is it just people that won't get a jab of the Trump vaccine. Nothing better than hearing moon bats demanding people get the Trump vaccine.

If you don't like what most "folks" are saying on this this forum you are free to leave. I am sure 99.9% of the people on this forum think the same of your spewing Nancy Pelosi talking points. You are a sheep. If anyone wants to hear what you have to say they can just turn on CNN and they will know exactly what is going to come out of your mouth. You want to belittle people here about conspiracies but your imbecile handlers have spent the last 6 years peddling conspiracy theories. Trump Russia collusion now "insurrection" by a bunch of unarmed people the cops opened the door for.

You are a serial whiner. You may want to get that checked out.

Good for you. I'm looking forward to retirement as well. And as I said earlier, I'll never argue that Type I teams are efficient. But that is completely different than claiming there's a conspiracy in the fire service to let wildland fires grow so that we can make more money. That's just stupid BS (not said by you) and is what I originally responded to. As for being inept, I completely agree that there is ineptitude in the fire service, but it's just a symptom of our larger ineptitude as a society. Most people these days are as dumb as a bag of rocks, but thanks to the good ole internet, they're convinced they know everything.....

Like I said earlier...you don't have much experience...and only interested in the $$$.
What you said earlier is that there is a conspiracy in the fire service to let fires grow, which is complete BS. And show me people who don't go work for the money? I'll wait....

Another one that can't answer simple questions because he doesn't have talking point responses from his handlers.

To quote someone who tries to out stupid his buddies- You soo smaaht!

Bored today tatonka? I don't care to correspond with you and feel no need to answer your irrelevant questions. Despite what you think, you don't warrant recognition or a response. And as the freeloader you are, how about you pony up for a paid membership here fella before you start telling paid members they can leave.

I would call a freeloader someone who lives in their parents basement playing on the computer while your mommy is doing your laundry which is what I guess is your situation.

You are the one that said-

"It just never ceases to amaze me how every thread on this forum devolves into a conspiracy theory about absolutely everything."

And-

"You should be ashamed, but I am sure that you are not."

And-

"It's like the government (you know, FF's, school teachers, police, military, etc.) can't do anything right according to most folks on this forum."

So you pay to be on a forum that most you don't like and the probability of the feeling being mutual is probably high. You must lead a sad existence. You should get out of your parents basement sometime.

You don't answer my questions because it would expose you for the hypocrite that you are. Don't worry I am sure most have figured it out already.

There are plenty of good folks on this forum who exist in reality and, even though we may have differences of opinion, are able to discuss and correspond like adults. And then there's the wingnuts like you with the education, sense of humor, and maturity level of a 12 year old....
