Christensen Arms Mesa ss barrel in bronze/brown barrel and stock to match in 6.5cm.. just nice lightweight package and easy enough my wife or less experienced hunters can utilize it as well..
Ruger Hawkeye Laminate LH 30-06. My son and I shot our first Deer with it. I need to get my Grandson to get his first with it. As soon as he does, it's being retired and then passed down to my son when I punch out.
An old Savage 110 bought from Big5 sporting way back in the days, in 30-06. Shot so many animals and targets with that heavy gun. Its just in the safe now. Funny how the new lightweight rifle built off a Tikka action hasn't seen as much action.
I don't have a favorite deer rifle. I have the deer rifle. I bought the rifle in .30-06 due to the versatility of the caliber. I can harvest game up to and including elk. Yes you can harvest elk with a .30-06.
When I worked at my LGS I was very much interested in elk. I asked the owner what should I use for elk. He asked me what I currently use. I told him .30-06. He said that was fine but to move up to a heavier bullet 165gr to 180gr. and to practice shot placement.
Have a few, but this season my Win M70 push feed in 6.5-06 has been the new favorite. Laminate featherweight stock, pillar bedded, timney trigger, 25" #3 Bartien. Killed 5 this season with 110HH's. More I tote it, more I think its perfect for the task.
Ruger Hawkeye 308 winchester, houge full bed aluminum stock, Leupold 3.5-10x40 cds . This gun is not picky about ammunition. Remington corelock ,Winchester power point ,deer season xp or blue box federal. not really necessary to turn a nob for a deer size target. Fouling the barrel not really necessary out to 200 yards. This would the last gun in my arsenal to leave. Life would be so simple if every hunting rifle was like this little Ruger. PS I'm really a Remington man.
