I've always liked the looks and feel of the Rem 760, I had one for a while in a .35 Rem no complaints, many years back (60s) I bought a Rem 760 for Yote hunting in a .223 Rem it still services me well today even with all the hi-speed varmint rifles I have in my safe, I still have a sweet spot for the old Rem 760, by the way, mine is "mint" I have one extra magazine those things are scarce! Accuracy-wise mine is a tack drive, I think a lot of folks don't realize how accurate the 760/7600 can be. Back when I was in the game I observed that many of the FBI guys carrying issued M760 in .308 Win in their cars as a go-to rifle, of course, most LEO were still using Win M97s and Win M94s in .30-30 backup rifles, oh my! how things have changed. My dad was a South paw back in the 50s and 60s (he passed in 63) and in those days there really wasn't any left hand guns. So he had a mod 12 Rem. 22, Mod 12 Win. shotgun and a 760 in 30-06. When he passed I inherited that 760. Shot my first deer with it in 69 . It was stolen from me in 75 but I always liked the feel of that rifle.
Great story, and yes they are fun rifles, if you see a good one at a shop grab it.

Surprise, most that I've run into shot quite well for a pump gun. At one point the Air Force marksmanship unit used re-barreled (a little heavier) M760s to win an international running Boar competition if I remember it right. I think it was in 1968 - USAF the match was the USA International Running Boar Championship... Winner Franklin J. Tossas... I read it in The American Riflemen many years ago as I recall.

They are shooters, that are the go to rifles in the big woods in Maine. They have a cult following up there amongst the deer hunters up there for good reason. They don't jam and they are dead accurate. I wish the price wouldn't have went through the roof a few years back. I've been using an 18" ar in 25x45 sharps this season. So far I've been impressed with it. 75gr sierra hp over xterminator. I don't recommend that bullet for everyone, but a good hit drops them.
New gun quickly on my list of favorites. Bought a 400 legend savage trail hunter, put a 6.8 spcII arp barrel on there in October. 2 weeks till opening day, put some factory loads down the tube to get a feel what it liked(120sst and 115gr fusion). Next week handloaded some 120sst for some .5 moa. Didnt want to wait on the meat, so dropped ( low shoulder shot) a small 10 pt on opening day, surprising pass through on both shoulders. Daughter spined a 7 pt the next weekend, he was down, but saw him raise his head twice, put one through his neck to finish him. Following weekend, a coyote at 100 yards stuck his head up over a hill, put one in his face. Very mild recoil and puts them down well.

Here in n.c. I think those intermediate cartridges plenty for deer. I've used 300wm down to .223 and I like my little .25 the most.
