favorite deer caliber

I have killed hundreds, lost count a long time ago, of WT deer with about everything from 22lr through 45-70. My favorite caliber has to be the 25-06 Remington. It just kills WAY BEYOND what you would think it is capable of. 99% of the time BANG FLOP. Favorite bullet is Sierra 117 Pro Hunter. Second place has to go to 308 Win and the 125 gr Nosler ballistic tip. I also have a soft spot in my heart for anything in .264 especially 6.5X55 and 264 Win Mag. And then there is, Oh forget it, I could go on for hours. :D
You said everything I would have said. Depends on what I'm currently reloading for. From 25-33, just love em all big and small......

It depends. Northern MN an hour from Canada. Thick **** 444 Marlin with 270grain speers. Same for elk
Mixed from thick to Open,, 35 Whelen Hornady Superformance 200 grain factory load, chronographed @ 2900 hit omg hard.
100 yd or less stand hunting, Browning BLR 7MM08 140gr OR 308 165gr
Power line sitting,, 300WM 180gr or 270Win 140gr

Over 100 Red stags and hinds have been taken with my 22-250 plus a few Sika, Fallow and a Sambar stag. A few have also been taken with a couple of 223s, a Ruger No1 in 257 Robert's, a couple of 25-06s and a 6 5-284 Norma. As for favorite, it would be a mix of those five cartridges.

I've shot deer with everything from a 25-35 to the big magnums. Shot my first buck with on old lever action Marlin in 35 Remington. For the past 30 years, 300 Win mag has been my go-to rifle. It bucks the wind in Wyoming very well. I have also shot a lot of critters with my old 270 Win. I now have a 6.5 PRC I am really liking but I've only shot one antelope with it so far.

When I bring a new rifle into my house, I shoot several factory loads for a good base line then I work up a load for it and if it gets under 1 MOA it goes out to the field for deer season. When I need a rifle that shoots lights out, it's my Savage long range in .300 win mag with 168g berger VLD's. If it is varmint shooting, that goes to the 700VTR in 22-250. The best cold shot rifle in my arsenal.

260 Remington. Long or Short and every thing in between. Very accurate with different loads to match the game and hunt.
