Don't recommend 53gr V-maxs

Never been to Pine Ridge Reservation. Been to Ft Wayne lnd at a Motorola radio school for the Army before Desert Storm. Saw Rushmore which is further West still. Flew into Rapid City, missing The Pine Ridge. Almost 30yrs around the US l saw quite a few ARs, M4s, M16s. l never considered them a target rifle. However, l did witness one in 6.5 Grendel eat up a 300yd gong a few days ago. lf l were a guest on a prairie dog shoot the HOST could shoot most ANYTHING he wanted

I haven't shot any varmints with the 53 gr V- Max but they are very accurate in my AR's. I shot some good scores in some high power rifle matches with my service rifle with a 1 in 9 twist and I've shot under one inch 5 shot groups at 100 yds and a couple half inch groups at 100 yds with my varmint AR with a 1 in 8 twist Shaw barrel. 55 gr V- Max shoots very well in my 220 Swift at 3848 fps. 60 gr V- Max are also very accurate in my varmint AR and I hope to shoot a wolf with this load.

Both 53s shoot quite well from my Cooper 21 Varmint in 222Rem. l have not tried any 53s in my Cooper Varmint in 223Rem. unless marked most CF 224cal Coopers are 1 n 12 twist. Prairie dog bullets need SPEED in these small cases. l think that's where the 40gr VMAX really shines. At 200yds a good hit from a 40gr will give the dog a loud POP.
