Defiance AnTi, n Carbon barrel, what would you build?

7mm-08 or 308. Why is everyone throwing the "old standards" to the wind. Both are cheap to load, components are easy to find, and their performance are nothing but tested and true. Imagine your quest in lightweight is for hunting. Had a trip to Texas hunt and my 338 RUM ammo got lost in the travel. try finding that in a sporting good shop or all those wildcats listed. 308 and 7-08 are everywhere if you got in the pinch I was in...by way friend offered up his 30-06 so the hunt could happen.

I have two anTi's on the way. One standard and one mag bolt face both short action. Already have 2 XLR Element Magnesium Chassis and 2 Hells Canyon summit ultralight barrels should be finished and shipped to me this month. One is going to be a 7 SS and the other a 6 creedmoor. Light weight deer rifle and a lightweight coyote gun
Love my 7SS Barrels, Creedmoor is Ok too

I'm wanting to do a 7-08AI with a 20" pencil barrel with the AnTi unless I can be talked into a CFW barrel from Proof or Bartlein. That's just my thought I like the 7mm caliber the most, a 6.5/260 would be another option too though.

On the anTI long action that I should have in a month or so, I'm building a 7 max for the wife. Manners EH-1 with 12.5" LOP, bartlien carbon varmint contour 20" 8 twist, aluminum BDL bottom metal, Timney HIT trigger. Went with the long action in case she wants to go to a bigger cartridge after she is burns this barrel out. Plan on running it supressed as well. With the short barrel and shortened stock with the supressor mounted, it will be the same or just shorter than my rifle with a long action, EH-1 stock, 24" barrel and 5 port brake.

In a short action standard bolt face, I would go fast twist 25 cal. Would make a nice pronghorn and deer rifle. If your gling BDL, you can likely have the mag box opened up to the bainey box and allow a 3.110" length, I would bet that would get you a 25-284 to fit, or a 25/260AI, or the bob.

I've built a few 6.5 RSAUMs and light weight 6 and 6.5 Creeds already. Just got a hold of my first Defiance AnTi, its like nothing weight wise, couldn't imagine anything but a Proof Sendero Light or a new Bartlein #4 contour for a build. Its a std bolt face (not sure the mag face was even avail at time of order) other than a 260AI, I cannot think of other choices that would appeal to others after I build it...input guys?
If your build it super light for a sheep rifle a 260AI or a straight 6.5 CM would be perfect. Mountain rifles are not intended to be long range rifles and either of those cartridges will kill a sheep orca deer out to say 500 yards easy.

I just ordered an anTi last week- with a standard bolt and a second bolt for magnums. Im going to do a switch barrel with Proofs since I like the last two I did so much. I'm thinking of a 6.5x47 or a .308win for the standard and a Sherman in either 6.5 or .338 for the magnum.

it'll have a Manners EH6 stock.

Won't you need to run DBM?

I put my hands on some anTis this week- great little action, advertised weights are spot on. I have two leftys on the way-- both short action one standard, one magnum bolt face (wsm rails).

The standard will most likely end up a 7/08ai with a 24" #3 Bart and the mag bolt face is up for debate, likely a 6.5PRC but possibly a Sherman.

For the OP-- the 25cm has a lot to offer and there are more bullet choices on the horizon.... I haven't seen too many fast twist steel barrels available but Id probably scrap the 7/08 for 25cm if i could find a 1-7 Bart 2b/3/3b or something similar.

Im definately a fan of the smaller Nightforce. But if i'm looking to shave oz id stick with the Leupold VX3 in 2-8x36 or the newer VX5HD n be really comfortable out to 400 yards in a superlight set up. REALLY leaning toward the 25 CM for a bit more bullet weight

My VX5HD 3-15x44 (Impact 29) has performed great for me 0-800 on my 6.5cm at 19oz there is lots to like. RTZ fine and the subtensions and dial both were great to 800.
