Customer service, good and bad!

I know it was a long post and details were definitely overlooked in its reading
No, I read the whole post.

I was fondling a Tikka 22-250 at my local Scheels. The sales guy asked if I needed help and I asked him to look up the twist on that particular rifle. While he went and did some digging on the computer, I noticed the barrel was stamped with the 8" twist and my question was answered. He then came back and confirmed what I had already discovered. I ended up not buying the rifle, but it's on my list of future buys. When I'm shopping around for this particular rifle I pay close attention to the listed twist rate.

My point is, I knew there are two different twist rates for that cartridge as well as the .243 win offered by Tikka. You were in the know about the different twist rates and assumed all the stock on the floor of your Scheels would have 8" twist rifles. You didn't have them check and you ended up with the long post above.

I mean a no disrespect. However, you should feel fortunate your local Scheels gave in and helped you out when clearly the buyer in this situation was partially to blame. A little extra research would have saved you all the headaches above.

Cabela's gun library. It's the people. I looked up an old Husqvarna 5000 they had listed on line in Idaho. Looked good in the 20 odd photos. Had it shipped to the local store and wow. It looked like a different gun altogether. Opened the ad and showed the library fellow the photos. He agreed it was not as the photos showed. Got me an acceptable discount so I could refinish the stock and replace the butt pad. A week or so later I got a package in the mail. It was from the library guy, it was an original Husqvarna butt plate for the rifle. Great experience. The one after that not so much. Got a model 700 300 saum with a Nikon scope on it. Shipped in a gun length box 4" x 16" with almost no packaging inside. There was a broken lens in the scope so it was completely useless. The rifle was a gift for my brother lifer in n the Navy so just eating the shipping to the local store was not really an option. Asked for a price adjustment. Was told that was not possible since it came from another location. Two people from the same store, same company with completely different results. Some people have G.A.S. (give a ****) for the customers, some ran out and others never had any.

Going to be a long thread.

I had an issue Beretta refused to resolve and C. Jones at a WI Scheels took care of me and took care of the issue Beretta was supposed to.

A bit on me first, I started in a local sports shop at age 14, later military during the 70s and some years after that I worked for a Midwest outfittter for a decade, where I was a firearms as well as reloading specialist.

My issue with Beretta:
In 2022 I decided to pick up a LR coyote rig. After visiting the various websites I discovered Tikka was offering their .243 WIN with a 1/8" twist barrel. Perfect I figured so I called Tikka(rerouted to Beretta) and spoke with a sales specialist. Yep "all Tikka .243 are being shipped with 1/8" barrels".

No tikka were available locally at the end of 2022 so I waited. In March 2023 I saw Scheels had gotten one in but the barrel wasn't stamped 1/8". I went home and again called Beretta back "243 are all 1/8" I was told, so I bought it.

Saved for the scope and in late Oct 23 I set it up for hunting. I decided to see just how well a 108 Eld-M shot from the rifle.
Darn if it didn't hit the target at 50yds oblong. So I went home and measured the twist, consistently measuring 1/9.5-1/9.7".
I called Beretta, was given a bit of a runaround but was told I could have them look at it in the spring after I was done coyotes (2024). A few months before I sent it off I again called Beretta and this lady was quite kind, stated any non standard twist should be stamped on the barrel, I confirmed it was not at which time she looked up my serial #. She told me the date of mfg (7/22) and that it indeed had a 1/10" twist, but not to worry, I could send it in after I was done hunting and that they likely would just put on a new barrel; which I was good with. So around a month ago I sent it in, they said it shot great with 95gr SST flat base, something I told them in the letter. The gun was returned back to me stating I need to use the 95 gr flat base bullet going forward, as well as that the twist was 1/8".

I again re-measured the twist and came up 1/9.7".

I waited a few days and I again called Beretta, and told them that I had measured it when I got it back and that it isn't a 1/8" twist.. They stated that it is a 1/8" twist and it shot great with the 95gr flat base SST and that I needed to shoot that load only going forward.
They tested nothing heavier, or any other loading. I asked how they determined the twist, a cast etc?
They said they didn't know because he didn't write down how he confirmed the twist in his work notes.
I stated that I specifically purchased the rifle so I could shoot High BC long range bullets. They said, well yeah, we're sorry that that didn't work out but we don't guarantee the firearm will group with everything. I said it's a bullet stabalizing issue not a group issue. He replied, our gunsmith states it's a 1/8" twist.
He then says, I'm sorry we've exhausted what we can do in this situation;
I said so what you're telling me is Im stuck with a rifle I would have never bought in the first place had I known it had a slower twist than 1/8"…… he answered, "I have exhausted all options available to you, will there be anything else today". I was a little dismayed.

So I went into Scheels for some other items a week ago and myself and C. Jones were talking about it and how badly Beretta failed.

C Jones was my original sales associate who has been aware of the calls and the return to Beretta.

He agreed and found it difficult to believe that Beretta wouldn't have made an effort even for a second opinion by one of their other gunsmiths.
He said hang on,
C Jones went and called someone, he came back told me he would order another Tikka in the same model, and they would exchange this current rifle for the one with a 1/8" twist barrel. The new Tikka was picked up tonight and it has the correct stamping of 1/8".

Steve, and the Scheel family definitely deserve a shout out, for having great policy and awesome employees that are about doing right by their customer. Scheels took care of their customer, a customer that was actually Berettas responsibility and one Beretta had no regard for.

Thank you C Jones & Scheels!!!

(In my recent searches it seems Beretta has a very bad reputation for trying to get out of warranty work).
I did not actually purchase the wrong twist in my 22-250 but did a lot of research before finally finding one with 8 twist. Finally noticed that in their product numbers that the twist is indicated in last 2 or 3 numbers the twist is indicated there. Either R8 orR14. I know this will not help you but may help someone else. Have not loaded anything heavier than Sierra 52 gr. match. Shoots bug holes with these and just having so much fun with these I have not loaded anything heavier.

How long ago was this? Pre merger with bass pro? Since the merger their CS has been horrible. Pre-merger it was phenomenal in my experience. I cancelled my card and rarely shop their any longer.

Scheels by far has the best CS You n the business. I owned a company for years called EvoShield and of all the companies we sold to, Sheels was by far the best because they actually cared. Happy to hear you had a good outcome and hopefully the rest of the retail world and manufacturers will do the same.

Bummer to hear about your luck. Scheels has always been aces for me. Love that place.
I remember I went into bass pro/cabelas making my rounds for consumables and they were complaining that Scheels is "buying up all the components and offering them cheap, which is why nobody else can get any..."
The last time I went to a Scheels they had Vit powders for $50 a pound and large rifle primers and large mag rifle primers for $100 a brick. These are astonishing prices today. If this isn't proof that most large companies don't care about their consumers I don't know what is. Kudos to scheels for taking care of Americans, eventhough it may mean there's one less zero in their yearly earnings.

I totally agree customer service is everything I just inquired a new weatherby shotgun and wanted to have stock changed out to a adjustable one that they offer in there shotguns and barrels changed out to longer ones that they offer in a configuration and they wouldn't even order the barrels or the stock saying they don't sell parts. They said they might be able to find a used set of barrels and would take 8 months and would cost almost the same amount as a new gun. This is the first weatherby that I have owned and definitely will be my last.
Customer service and inventory of non inventory, not for sale parts is apples to oranges. Weatherby CS has always been very good, and has only gotten better after the move to Wyoming.

I worked at Cabela's at the customer service desk and in the hunting department prior to, during and after the merger. I now work for Scheel's.

From an employee and customer standpoint Scheel's is a superior store.
