Custom actions, are they worth it?

My daughter's R700 will shoot along with most custom actions. But, I have a LOT of money in upgrades into it to bring it as close as I can to a custom. Customs come with a lot of performance enhancing upgrades over a factory action.

Side bolt release
Fluted bolt body
Tactical CF bolt knob
Bushed firing pin hole
M16 extractor
Squared bolt face/lugs
Threads opened up and recut
Nitrided bolt
TI firing pin and Wolff Blitzschnell spring
PT&G .250 recoil lug dual pinned
Seekins 20MOA Picatinny rail bedded to action

I could have SAVED money by going with a custom action.

Except this thread isn't about versatility or even overall cost. It was about accuracy and like has been proven time and time again, when a rifle doesn't shoot well guys don't swap out the action...

This thread has been moving around with what it's about from the initial post you put up. I am not the only one mentioning costs but I get quoted because I am not agreeing with getting into a factory action. It's ok. I know factory rifles can shoot when worked on and a good barrel installed. Have used them for decades and have one left. Not saying that factory actions and good barrels can't be accurate. Just that money is better spent elsewhere and I learned that from my own experience. Some disagree and that's fine. Anyone wanting to make up their mind can look at all the opinions and make their own.

Lance you didn't have to do all
that to it. You could have guaranteed yourself less performance, reliability and longevity and saved the money.

I think we need to start a page for the guys who think a trued/straight/blueprinted action that doesn't say "defiance" on the side of it is a shortcut.
If my gunsmith thinks he's too good to touch a remington action he can kick rocks. Once we start building rifles off the gunsmiths wallets then I will gladly acquiesce to his request to spend an extra $500. Personally I would be hesitant to give my money to anyone who would tell you that they are too good to build you what will save you money and shoot just as accurate.

Gunsmiths that won't build off a Rem 700 or other factory actions are usually smiths with their own branded actions from company X or Y...or they are hacks that do crap machine work on barrels so they can blame something other than themselves when the rifles don't shoot.

These guys have built high quality weapons for quite a while. and i don't mean a few.
They don't push a certain brand, as long as it's what they deem high quality. When repeat business stacks up and wait times increase, that's says a lot. Both are one man shows also.
of course they have preferences with some
components but going by their sample size I have to say they have a valid reason to.
who doesn't want to eliminate a potential issue ahead of time.?

Kind of depends on what you're doing. If you're an F class guy trying to run with the big dogs you're not getting there with a savage action. So It's worth every penny. Also, I don't think it's my place or anyone else's to define worth to someone else.

Is there an action type that eliminates donuts, carbon rings, and cold welding?
