Classified, What does ( I'll Take It Mean )

No such thing as electronic money fraud eh. I just cancelled my PayPal account and eBay account. Only one credit card left, with no balance. Guess I won't be buying from the "I want my money now crowd" unless in person and using cash.

I haven't heard anyone say that there is no fraud with electronic banking. Hell, all your banking info and everything else is online, available for online banking and sitting on a server that can be hacked. So your account info is in the ether anyway.

Really the only difference is that Venmo or whatever clears when you hit the button. A check you write and send via snail mail clears a week after you drop it in the mail. If the item never arrives you have no recourse in either scenario. That's it. That's the only difference (except for the fact that it takes 30 seconds and no waiting on a check, depositing it, etc if you use electronic payments).

You should do your due diligence no matter how you pay bc that is what will really protect you. I have sold plenty of things here where people pay by check, and I'd rather they pay electronically but I'm not going to turn away someone with a solid background here due to waiting for a week for a check.

There are advantages to credit cards…2% cash back on everything I put on it. Fraud protection for 30 days, etc. If you treat it like a debit card and think of your cash balance as cash minus your CC expenses then it is not dangerous.

If you use good and services with PayPal or Venmo then that does provide some buyer protection if you don't get your item or it's not as described. But they also say that you can't use their service for anything firearm related. So they just deny the claim and lock your accounts and sieze any money you may have in them.

I also won't take goods and services payments because they automatically send you a 1099 and you get hit for the taxes. Not to mention the additional fees they charge

Why would anyone use a service that is antigun and contributes to organizations to take them from us?
Because venmo is free and easy and instant. They make no money off me so the jokes on them. The parody is great IMO. They do not support my freedom...except they actually do....for that reason I see no reason to not do it. They can contribute all they want there is no way they are taking my guns from me. Hahha

Lrh actually states you shouldn't use PayPal (and therefore venmo)

Those companies "prohibit" anything firearms related and therefore no protection and they will lock account and seize all available funds in account ( just ask hammer bullets how their battle with PP went even using the "goods and services" form)

Most scams are done via e-payments.

With checks or m.o. you may or may not have any protection BUT you do have a person's name and address of whom the $ was sent to so at least there is some form of personal contact Info if something does go sideways.

I usually try to work a deal via personal check and will wait for shipment until it clears-- I also send a pm with a pic of the check and envelope and try to mail the check within 24 hours of making a deal via pm. I try to only deal with well known members with multiple positive feed back too ( though sometimes i will take a chance on a lower price item knowing well I could loose my $ if things go wrong)

I'm not a fan of e-$ transactions but in the future there may be no other options

I have been a member of multiple gun forums as long as such things have existed and a posted "I will take it" has been the deal clincher in all of them. If the seller does not want paper payment he/she needs to state that up front. I do not and will not do electronic payments after dealing a paypal account seizure several years ago. If you are so broke you cannot wait for a money order, tgats your problem but I simply will not buy from someone who refuses a USPS Money Order. I have zero issues waiting for it to clear which is usually 2 to 3 days.

You can justify that any way you want but they are owned by Paypal who is blatantly anti-2A

I had posted : I'll Take IT " on a classified item on Long Range. I sent a PM' to the seller. He asked me if I could pay by electronic payment. I said I could not. I would send a USPS money order, or personal check. Which ever he preferred. Some time later he sent a PM back to me saying he had sold to some one else thru an electronic payment. That some else never posted a " Ill take it: on the listing. How does this strike you. There were no restrictions listed in the add about payment. Only the item for sale & the amount asked.
USPS money orders are much safer than electronic money exchange.....

I guess any payment method is susceptible to the actions of thieves. The BEST way to avoid being scammed here is to only do business with well-established members.

Just a day or two ago, I saw a classified ad posted by someone who has never had a post prior. His very first post on LRH was a "for sale" post. IMO, all classified ads should be restricted to members who meet an established criterion.
