Considering purchasing a cheap, no frills hunting rifle to just slap on a scope and go(may swap for a Boyds stock later). I am looking at the Mossberg Patriot and a Savage 111. I know the Patriot can have some issues with the action screws not being torqued to spec from the factory and I've read some issues with the 111's too. Looking for any hands-on experience with either.

Thanks!

from what i've read the 111 is for females that have a shorter lop (could be a youth use also). if the 111 is the same as the 110, it should be gtg as i have several 110's (2 300wm, 1 338lm & 3 110 actions for lam builds......264wm and 300wm). i know this isn't "hands on", but i like everything about the 110's minus the accu-trigger. my wife (5' 7") and daughter (17 yo) (5' 6") shoots them, but some have an adjustable lop.

I own a patriot in 7-08,a ruger in 7-08 a savage .22 rf and a Mauser m18 in 6.5 creed........... all about the same fit and finish...all about 1 moa.... the ruger gen 11 is the most accurate......you cant go wrong with any of them......

I bought a new Stevens in 6.5 Creed made in Turkey, one heck of a rifle, especially when you look down the bore with the bore scope. Trigger is simply incredible with a slight modification, and the wood stock is really nice. The barrel is free floated, nice action design with 60* bolt throw. Put some lube on the bolt body.

No! Youth has a 'Y" designation on the model. As far as for ladies, the Lady Hunter is made in both 11(short action)/111(long action).

Savage has basically divided up the types of rifles and given them their own series. 2 digit numbers are Short Actions and 3 digit numbers are long actions.

10/110 = Sporter (old designation, now 10/110 is designation for the Law Enforcement Series)
11/111 = Sporter (new designation)
12/112 = Varmint Series
14/114 = Classic Series (same as Sporter Series but High Luster Blue and Nicer Wood Stocks)
16/116 = Weather Warrior Series (SS Actions, barrels, and Synthetic Stocks)
25 & 40 = Lightweight Varmint Series (these are a totally different Action Setup)
Axis = Entry Sporter ( Different Action and Stocks, Sporter Style with DBM only)

AK - Adjustable Muzzle Brake
B - Laminate Stock
BT - Laminated Thumbhole Stock
C - Clip (Detachable Box Magazine)
F - Synthetic Stock
G - Hardwood Stock
H - Hinged Floorplate
L - Left Hand
ML - Muzzleloader
NS - No Sights
P - Police
SS - Stainless Steel
T - (Rimfire) Peep Sights
V - Long-Range (Heavy Barrel)
XP - Package Gun
Y - Youth

I have had 10/110, 11/111, 12/112s in B, C, F, H, SS, and XP.

I set up my Sister in laws Mossberg Patriot in 6.5 creedmore and I'm totally impressed!
I did a complete clean , torqued top rail and action screws , set a Burris XTR ii 4 x 20 x 50 on it . Cronograph with some White box Hornady match 140 gr and she is hitting every target from 100 , 200 ,300 ,446, 586 , 685, and 777 yards .
I put all info in a Shooter app and made up a dope chart for her .
14 guy and her out at the Range my Brother and I set up and she was Smoking everyone !
Totally unbelievable one of my Buddys said ! I cant agree more .
Not sure what caliber your looking at but in my eyes feel Confident in the Mossberg Patriot! For the price it unbelievable!

🤣MG! He's using a *** lead Sled. 😍

Nice set-up and shooting.

Yea, nix the lead sled!
LOL! That is not what I am saying at at all. I still have the original Lead Sled. I never had any issues except for not having a good cheek weld and cradle when shooting at the bench. I have a free rests, so the original Lead Sled is primarily used for barrel break-ins.

I'm not stating it is a youth, but could be used for youth (not all children are the same size, kids not guns).

So, is there any mechanical difference between the 110 and 111(trigger, action the way it's made etc)?
