BS or not?

It most likely happened. One thing about the creed is the sammi reamer is set-up for the 140 factory load. It would be much mre likely this rifle has a sammi reamer chamber. It might happen 1in5 or 1in 10 groups when the weather allows. A day with intermittent clouds and bright sun nope. Wind switching from 1 to 5 or 7 to 11 as it gusts nope.
Too many people shoot a screamer and claim the rifle shoots .XXX groups. I had my best season in short range long ago. I had a season long agg under .250(.211) That's 5 5 shot groups a day for 10 shoots at our club. For every .0xx group I shot I would shoot 2 over .23 it seemed. When I read how someone's big boomer shoots .2-.3 all day you can imagine what I think. I'm sure they can shoot a group in that range it isn't hard today with the amount of great smiths and components. However they are not shooting 5 5round groups and getting that for an agg. Otherwise they would be claiming all the plastic wood trophies at the score matches across the country
Well Cap, you do know some folks is just plain good, I mean really good. Just like them that "catches" all them really big fish on really light string.
Like the thread title says, B S or not? lol

He's probably shot a few groups that size. When I switched from 168amax to eldm I shot this plate at 1/2mile
09F8A7B5-FA33-46F1-807E-04D4E64C1294.jpeg

It was deathly calm day with a thunderstorm coming in. Calm before the storm kind of thing. I shot the 3 at the top, it's the size of a 308 case.
I adjusted my ballistic inputs and the wind came up, really gusty like and I shot the waterline. That's an 18" plate so I went from a 3" group to 18" lol from a little wind.

So he's probably shot a few nice groups but since he gave a 1.12" measurement, I think he probably shot one that size, they're not going to measure the same to the hundredths. If he had said avg size of 6 groups discounting five groups on windy days they avg whatever, well then it seems a little more believable.

This is pretty simple to me. It's no different then guys with there factory rifles that shoot "all day ragged holes"

Just because it happens from time to time doesn't mean it's a .1-.2" gun.

I've got factory guns that have shot multiple groups in the .2's but they aren't even a consistent in .5's over and over and over again but more like a consistent 1 moa shooter.

If he can go out and repeat it at least most of the time then he has something to talk about. He does have a custom gun and maybe that factory ammo.is just.in the sweet spot.

I'd like to see all his targets not just the picked ones.

I am happy for the guy if he did it and especially if it is repeatable.

I have shot a few great groups and figured I got lucky and with a great rifle just had a good day. I competed for many years and shot many long range matches at 600 and 1000 yards and never saw a 1 inch group at 600 yards with all the master marksmen shooting.

That Is tough for the unlimited bench rest crowd. But never bet anyone that It can't be done.

BS is determined by several different methods.
If someone does something that others cant do, they may call it BS simply because they cant do it.

If someone is truthful and does something that Others say cant be done,it is not BS, it is ether skill or luck on his part.

If it is Physically impossible for anyone to do and some claims to have done it (Like having a 100 yard zero and making a 500 yard shot with no hold over) because the round has NO drop. Then the BS meter pegs out.

This is one of the places that I apply the old saying - Don't believe any thing you hear, and only half of what you see.

I would have to question it unless I could see it first hand. So is it BS or not. I don;t know.

What rifle? If I remember right MPA at least dis chamber one of their full rifles specifically for the 140 factory load. I can absolutely believe it happened once or twice.

My smith has seen .2s and SDs as low as 3.4fps with Hornady factory ammo. Main issues is lot to lot variation.

Usually the truth is stretched slightly in group size and stretched a lot in repeatability while story telling. Go to somewhere like Reddit and tel them your custom shoots .5 and they will have a fit over how their Ruger American can outdo that with factory Winchester.

I fish with a friend, his family Dad Mom and Brother are all in the IGFA book. His dad has held most of the white and blue marlin line class records. His Mom has the 4# white marlin record that will be tough to beat at 98#. His brother was the captain of the man that has the mass state blue marlin record and he is back running that boat. I've met a few of the men and women that by and large are always in the conversation for line class records. I've been fortunate in that respect. I've also shot along side some of the greats when I was young. Always an also ran back then but I was able to learn a thing or three from alot of those experiences. I hope that I can give back all of that and then some to both aspects of what has been my passions!
This friend this year in a 21' CC handed a whole fleet of boats some as large as 75' customs(12mill) their *** on bluefin this past season. One of the nicest persons I have ever had the pleasure to meet.

"At the Piedmont, NC, range, two shooters recently broke the 1" mark for the first time in registered 600-yard competition. Shooting a 6.5-284, Wolf Beuhner nailed a .960" group that earned him Piedmont's cash bounty for the first sub-inch group. Shortly thereafter, not to be outdone, Terry Brady eclipsed Wolf's mark with an amazing .860" group--a new IBS world record, pending certification. Terry's stellar .860" five-shot cluster is the equivalent of a 0.1433" group at 100 yards. Terry performed this feat with a "high-mileage" converted 6PPC, shooting a standard 6BR with factory Berger 105s. Terry proved that the "plain-vanilla" 6BR is still more than capable of setting world records. Terry's achievement, with off-the-shelf components in an older rifle, demonstrates just how accurate this cartridge can be. Well done, Mr. Brady!"

This is not factory ammo, and while personally, I have shot many 2" groups at our 600 yard range and from the bench, the key is repeatability. Anyone can throw a great group, but then never repeat it. So, while modern equipment and ammo is far superior than just a couple of decades ago, it is very possible someone could shoot an inch at 500. During summer months, we hold golf ball and soda can shoots, and while the golf ball shoots are usually in the 300 yard/meter range, the soda shoots are on the 500 (550yd) meter rail. When too many of us are tied, we turn the cans bottom toward the shooters for tie breakers

Maybe if the rifle was mechanically held.

Otherwise, I remember my old neighbor. Once he started embellishing, there was no f_ing stopping! Has anyone out there, seen a real pathological liar? It's just amazing.

Have you ever attended a BR or an F-class 600 yard shoot? Simple br front rest or bipod with bag at the back stock. No mechanicals, but there are some 1000 yard BR shoots that allow those. Read the posting above from 6BR. We shoot our golf ball and soda can shoots from bipods on the bench

how many shooting FACTORY rifles with FACTORY ammo...stay in context.
( i am a 600 yard national champ...factory nothing)

i tend to think a one time event, and now he claims the gun is always that number.
let it pass
most of us understand it just aint so.

If you read my post before, I made that very claim. I am an old BR, Nat'l Match, 1,000 and Palma shooter with NRA High Master rank, so I do know a little too. :)

As for what some factory rifles are capable of today, here is a 200 yard group from my load development with a Savage BVSS in 22-250 with a 1/9 twist. Only modification was I hand lapped the bore and adjusted the trigger. Load was 33gr IMR4895 under a 75gr AMAX in a once fired Winchester case with CCI Match primer shot with a 10-40x scope.

I have several "factory" varmint rifles that required minimum tuning that shoot in the .2-.3's with handloads of course.
