Brainstorming an Ultra-handy large caliber Long ranger

Kirby Allen told me long ago that 338 bores are pretty efficient at shorter lengths. He shortened a 338 RUM for me down to ~25.5".

I think you'll have plenty of barrel length for good performance in your Norma @ 24".

Expansion ratio is your friend! That's one of the reasons I love the medium bore chamberings so much, they perform very well in short barrels.

Except for the absolutely brutal recoil and muzzle blast.

The 4,000 ft-lbs from the 375 Ruger with 300gr's is plenty.

I have to admit that I'm struggling still and have been for years with not having at least one .375 Rum just to round out the collection.

I've always been intrigued by a 375 Ruger and a CEB 350gr bullet Lazer

I am waiting for some results on this one. I have studied the ballistics with this combination a lot and it looks great!..just a lot to commit to contour a 1:10 375 barrel/chamber/ and load for without knowing the results. Not a lot of 1:10 twist 375 barrels out there with 1.2-1.25 shanks for non-cheytac actions

I would consider the availability of ammo. Why not get a 300 WM ? I have a 300RUM I'd love to get rid of, but it's long and ammo where I lived in Washington State was non-existent. 6.5x284 might be a thought.

My .375 H&H Ackley performs well out to 600. (25" lilja w/break.) haven't tried pushing it much farther. but based on this convo may give it a try!
With short barrels with large charges, you get a big flash and lot of noise. You louse lot of the energy.

That's not accurate. Muzzle flash is influenced more by the specific powder used than by the length of the barrel. There are lots of 20" barreled 375 Rugers out there which offer comparable performance, muzzle flash, and blast to 25-26" barreled 375 H&H rifles.
