I figured it would probably need a 30"er. Just trying to figure what case to use..I don't know spike, 3000+ for 250 grain might be a little push for a 8mm mag case..mmaybein a 30 inch barrel..

I was thinking maybe 8mm/7mm rum because I have plenty of brass for the 7 already.8mm/338Rum
Right, I think our minds are on the same page buddyEven better, UM has the 4.00" DBM these days so those of us who run Man Sized cartridges can have repeaters too. Would be the ultimate elk rifle. I don't like building rifles/cartridges around 1 niche bullet but I could make an exception for a 250gr pill with a .900BC I do have a couple hundred pieces of formed 338EDGE AI brass laying around that would perfect for this if I wanted.
That's good news, I want to keep this thing as close to a hunting rifle as possible.N570 and 26" bbl should go 3000-3100fps
Love that piece of wood you found absolutely gorgeous!!!Nice to see this thread still running. 8 mags get my blood pumping this time of year. I have an 8x68s due soon! Built on an FN Mauser, it will have a 26" Carbon6 barrel, (magnum contour I think they call it), APA Little Bastard brake and a really nice stick of wood I found for it... As I mentioned last Spring, 8 mags are about my recoil limit anymore but I do have .338 wildcat (330HNH) that's fairly tame. It's a necked up 300 H&H in a Browning B78 and a Lilja octagon barrel.
