Tikka mag with a 162 ELD-x. I got no pressure signs in Peterson's brass at 3000fps using 59 grains of 4831sc. Load was actually seated deeper than this.this is good info! would berger 180 hybrids be too long for tikka mag?
The problem isn't velocity it's dealing with the bearing surface seated below the donut area at the base of the neck.Tikka mag with a 162 ELD-x. I got no pressure signs in Peterson's brass at 3000fps using 59 grains of 4831sc. Load was actually seated deeper than this.

I've considered 280 AI but it seems like I might run into COAL issues. 284 WIN doesn't seem like it has enough bang.
Are there any other options with standard bolt.
If you go with mag bolt face I would considder the 270 WSM or even the 6.5 PRC.
So the red snake metal and acis mags will run say 300 win mag with 215 berger no problem at 3.6? And what needs to be modified? Grinding some off trigger area? How about the front of mag , besides inletting, I get thats custom.Simple dbm and switch to a acis mag addresses all coal issues under 3.6".
I just built one with a 40* shoulder, should have contemplated a bit more it works good and everything but I'd save the headache and go straight 284 win or if custom 7-6.5 PRC284 Shehane.
Yea I would go straight 284 also, but the op seemed to want something different. How about a 35 Gibbs. Now that would kill, not sure it's even a thing.I just built one with a 40* shoulder, should have contemplated a bit more it works good and everything but I'd save the headache and go straight 284 win or if custom 7-6.5 PRC
THIS ^^^^^^^^^!On that action, in 7mm, if you want to shoot heavier/higher bc bullets, I would do the .284 win. If your ok using lighter or lower bc bullets, or seating deeper for a short enough OAL, then a .280 ai would get my vote. Or as stated, if you want more, get a mag bolt and run a 7 saum/7 Sherman max/7 wsm. No bad choices, just different ones.
Here's my 284, 168 ABLR elk load. I've got a neck turning kit but not sure I'll need it even if I get donuts. The problem isn't velocity it's dealing with the bearing surface seated below the donut area at the base of the neck.
Eventually it'll show up and you'll have neck tension /pressure issues if you don't ream the necks
Nice you should be good to go with the bearing surface above the donut area. Here's my 284, 168 ABLR elk load. I've got a neck turning kit but not sure I'll need it even if I get donuts.
