6.5 PRC built on Tikka action

I could see that. I was considering rebarelling my WBY Vanguard 6.5-300 to a short mag but when I made a few dummy cartridges to get some ideas my mag capacity dropped to two.
3 wouldn't fit. Not even close.

Keep in mind the coal for factory Hornady 6.5 prc is right at 2.92 or so, and will NOT fit in the M+ magazines. A 300win/7mg mag is needed, or a billet HCA mag.

I think you're correct. There's also a rib in the M+ magazine that won't let the width of the cartridge fit. LA magazines work fine though.

i agree. They work in my 7 mag magazines.

Sorry for the confusion. The 6.5PRC does fit in the Long Magazine that the 300WM rifle came with. It fits better in my modified 270WSM magazine. The reason is the inside width. The SM magazine internal width is .561" and the L magazine internal width is .515. As measured on the factory magazines I have. The body of the 6.5PRC is .518 so it fits with resistance on the sides. The SM magazine holds it much better in my opinion, but doesn't mean the L magazine won't work.

I took some pics. The 6.5 PRC works fine in the 7mag magazine. The M+ magazine has a rib that won't let you load the round. I couldn't get it to show up in the pic but you can see where the round stops. Also the round appears to be too long to fit the M+ mag.

probably but the 7mag mags work fine so I'm just going to use those.

I have LH Tikka. Can a non magnum bolt be open up? If not can a magnum bolt be purchased?

Yes. I removed material from the rear of the SM magazine and have 3.1 length available in it now. Definitely simpler to just use one that fits. - I had to remove material on the back and add in a small block on the back. And also extend the plate... works great, but I wouldn't take the time to do it again.

To clarify, for simplicity and assuming all things equal it is preferred to build on a 300WM action rather than a 300 WSM or 270 WSM?

There's a thread on rokslide where a member had his tikka bolt opened to run a 6.5 PRC. Looked like it worked great. Id probably go with that option over buying a bolt for $370.
With that in mind, could buy a 24" 6.5 Creed CTR, have bolt face opened to mag, and rechamber barrel to 6.5 PRC.

Do you happen to remember who did the work? I been considering the same basic idea with my Xbolt. Looked at the wsm bolt body replacement idea too.
