Besides the 6.5 prc

Thank you! I was wondering about throat erosion
Yeah, the cartridge gets a bad rap from the BR world because of high shot strings and hot loads. I shoot PRS and LRP and would not choose this for PRS matches in any way unless I was given barrels for free. I shoot 6mm or 6.5 creedmoor for that. If you just keep a good solid load with slower burn powder and not get the barrel cooking hot then you can have decent life. The recoil is mild and the cartridge is fairly easy to tune.

I have never shot a match but watching they do seem to shoot as fast as they can?
Before conditions change I assume?
It depends but generally yes for BR. If you have a good wind call, send it right now as groups and xring count. PRS is timed stages with multiple engagements on steel. 120 seconds for 10-12 rounds, position and target changes. Steel can vary in size depending on the course marshalls desire to mess you up. 1-2.5 moa depending on range and stage. Destroys barrels and confidence. ha ha

br at 1000 is either 5 in light gun , under 17 lbs, or 10 in heavy gun...carry it to the bench limit.
2000 round bbl life claims in one mile shooting sound more like a bbl and half the next one.
small dia neck with a large case will burn our a throat quick. 6.5 prc comes to mind.
Beware of br barrel estimates. They shoot longer strings than most of us. Most guys I know shoot 3 shot strings as opposed to 10. Huge difference

look at the difference in case volume between a 6.5prc and a 6.5 284...
all that extra powder/gas going thru that 6.5 throat. it aint gonna be 1500 rds.

madarcher, by the way, I have several 6.5-284's and they really do well with a long barrel and slow powder. I run 147's at 3015 53 grains rl26 in a 28" and can go up over 3100. However, I prefer the light load accuracy. I have another 28.5" that runs 147's at 3025 with 56 grains retumbo. Both run 140's easily at 3100 and both are rifles I use for hunting. The 28" was my preferred go to hunting rifle for the past several years and shot several long range practical comps with it too. If you keep the shot strings mild you should see 1500-2000 rounds and if you take care of it, I bet you can see 2000-2500. I have 1000 on both with .002 or less throat erosion.
