Bedding in front of recoil lug

I don't bed barrels, just the action/recoil lug. The barrel vibrates and moves while the action needs to hold tight. Anything that changes that will hurt accuracy. The load is tuned to the barrel vibrations.

The post above by newmexkid applies because his barrel is prevented from vibrating in the first place.

I have done a few bedding jobs, Most 22 RF. I always bedded the action, and the chamber area of the barrel, Always had good luck but 1. I had to cut out and free float the barrel to to the recoil lug to get the rifle to shoot its best. I bedded a Rem. 78 308 Win. action, Free floated the barrel, &($#@. Had to put a pad of bedding at the front sling screw area to get it to shoot its best.
