barrel decision(s) for a cartridge replacement in long action .540" bolt face

I'm a big fan of the 300wsm with a long throat, or 28 nosler with a long throat. 30 nosler is also a possibility, more oomph than a win mag or prc, but not crazy overbore. Online theres plenty of stuff for it in stock, not sure how much is in person. I don't really pay attention to the ammo availablility in store of rounds I don't shoot. So I guess my vote is for the nosler with 195 berger or 175 eldx or 169gr hammer , with second choice being the wsm with the 200.20x, 200 grain accubond, or 199 grain hammer hunter. The is in my opinion the perfect weight for that round.

regardless of brand or action number i have a 300wm and can use either mag of 3.850 or 3.715 depending on which stock i use. now a list of current cartridges i have, then a possible list of choices (you can add other choices).

what i have currently
6.5prc
264wm
7saum
300wm
I think a 6 PRC would be a lot of fun.

for possible change(s)
7rm
28nos
300prc
300wsm

not sure about any in
27cal
7prc
33cals

reason i wouldn't choose these
7prc, not enough gain over the 7saum
passing on the rum cases due to heavy per caliber bullets would be seated deep even when using 3.850 mags

what suggestions would you have that i could find reloading components in stock as that would be how i could make final decision(s)?
You don't have a 33 cal, do a 33 Nosler, it has a shorter case/coal then the 300 wm. I am doing one now. Any Nosler case will need you to open feed rails (super ez to do,10 mins w/ a bastard file), new mag box and follower. Or the ez button would be a 338 wm. Imo the 33 Nos is the 6.5cm of 33 calibers with its medium sized case(for caliber)shooting high bc bullets ~ 2750 fps. I want a smaller cased 33 caliber to shoot 160 gr ttsx at 3000-3200 fps with a 22-24" barrel. A short to intermediate range set up.
I did my feed rails and am about to order box and follower now from Wyatts.
With all that said I do want a 300 wsm as well, I have a 270 wsm and its my favorite intermediate range rifle which has killed a cow elk and a bunch of deer. I recommended the model 70 Tungsten in 300 wsm to a buddy as his 1 and only BG hunting rifle. The 300 wsm holds the 1000 yard 10 shot group record at the moment.
Edit- pic is a 33 Nos dummy round with a 230 eldx seated long next to a 300 wm with a 200 LRX. I would think the 33 Nos could be loaded with even a 300 gr and still be shorter coal then a 300 wm with a 215 gr.

already have a 33cal (338lm). if i had a longer box than 3.850, then i'd consider a rum case. stayig with the same bolt face (.540) is my goal. I DON'T HUNT! this is a just for fun longer range to x-lr to make my brain hurt for experience. trying to find a gap in the 28's and maybe the 27's, but the 30's has me going. having a long range powered 26cal has my small bores covered. 27's don't quite have the weight, but has me thinking possibly with the 170-175's. i have 195's for the 28's.

If 7RM is on the table, 7PRC should be as well. 7PRC=7RM without the belt. Nothing more, nothing less. But better brass available. ADG, Peterson, and Lapua announced their 7PRC brass is coming. Neither will run with a 28 Nos, but both will outlast the 28Nos barrel life expectancy. Either will outrun the 7SAUM. 7MAX? 7MEGA?

300PRC is in the same boat with the 300WM as the 7mm versions. Pretty identical, just without the belt. If you have a 300WM, unless you go with a faster twist, it will be a duplicate for all intents and purposes. 300WSM will be a little less, but they are a great option. Still plenty for elk-sized game.

A fast 25 would be interesting, I really like mine. .257Wby, some of the "short" action mags like 25SS, 25MAX, 25PRC (or PRC/SI), etc. Lighter recoiling, high BC bullets, fast and flat, and amazing deer/pronghorn/black bear size game crushers, but not too overkill for coyotes and other varmints/predators.

A .277" would be between the 6.5 and 7mm rounds. I think you have to be a .277 fan to bring those into play. There are some great bullets for .277s, however. 270Wby, 270WSM, 27 Nosler should all be considered if you go .277.

If you're ok with belted cartridges, you might consider a Navy Mk-13 reamer. It's a 300WM set up for SEAL sniper mission. Mine works great with 208-230s in a 9 twist and a CIP magazine.
