Ballistic Turret vs Hold Over Lines

And did they add the BT for you? Did it cost a lot?
yes swaro can add the bt to whatever reticle, but not the other way around. Believe they do it new jersey. didnt take more than a couple weeks if i remember correctly and something like another $100 or so. It is on my 6mm cm for coyotes, goats, deer type hunts.

Thank You Goose. If this works out then my rants about Swaro were for nothing, except they could offer it this way at retail rather than to make you send it in.

I also found a guy in New Zealand that makes a pretty nice custom turret. I got a couple that are in moa and 2 revolution of marks. I have not tried the zero stop removal yet, but i plan to. With a 20 moa rail and stock z5 you can dial to around 700-800 yards (fine for hunting for me), but for summer steel practice I want to dial more than 1 revolution to 1000-1200y. It takes a few seconds to pop the zero stop out. Then you get a little over 2 revolutions, but you need to pay attention to where your zero is. I would probably do this for practice, then put zero stop back in for hunting.

Or you could buy an X5 and dial away;)

I emailed Swaro and got answers back this morning. They will change out a reticle for $170, or add a BT dial for $200, either way you send in the scope and they estimate 8 weeks turnaround.

I'm deciding on the Ballistic Turret vs Hold Over Lines on a Z6.

My thoughts are if I have 10 seconds to make a shot, and my heart is pounding out of my chest, I'm not playing with a ballistic turret. I'd rather compensate with the hold over lines .

What are your thoughts ?
I set up all my big game rifles 1MIL high @100. (Used to use Hagel's 3") Have since before you could buy a scope that you could reliably dial. Used it for so long I just know where to hold on close shots. This will give you maximum point blank range on most flat shooting rifles. I dial for further. If your heart is pounding, and you don't have time to dial and set up the shot properly, the animal is too far at that particular place and time. Dialing the range is the easy part. By the time it is far enough to dial, wind becomes a bigger deal. That is what takes the most time, figuring out and reading the wind.

Zeiss Victory is real nice glass. But their reticle selection suuuuucks….

I'm looking at the new Z8 with BHR reticle, & adjustable turret. This way I can hold over at 300-400 yards.... & then dial for anything beyond that.

I had a bear at 270 yards last week, and he knew we were watching him. He started walking away, & if I had to dial, he would have been long gone. But instead, I held over, and now he's in my freezer.

I see that they offer the BT as an added accessory for the Z8. So does that mean a shooter can easily add his own? They would not give me that option on a Z5; it has to be sent to Swaro for eight weeks to add either a new reticle or a BT.

Here is my homemade cheat card for my Z3. I have memorized the holds, although I don't plan to use it for more than 600, I just like to know where the longer holds are. I might want to play with them on gongs.

300, 450, and 600 yd work out conveniently very close on a tension line. 400 and 500 and especially in-between are more difficult. So I will need to ask the elk to please move a little closer or further.

Are you a graphic artist ? or is there a software program for that ? I know my 300 mark is between the line, and the dot.

So I can add a turret to my Z6 ?
I know you can add a turret to the Z3 and Z5 by sending them to Swaro. They show a BT for Z8 as an added accessory. That makes me assume that you could add a BT to a Z6 as well. Email them and ask - they respond pretty fast.
