Are talley one piece rings strong enough?

Oh I forgot I just put a set on a new 338 ultra mag build with a carbon barrel . When the weather brakes here I will send a few down range ! This new build is for the Wife for Montana Spring Bear !

I have them on 270wsm and a kimber 8400 300wsm and they work great. My buddy shoots them on his tikka 300wsm and never had a problem. Call them their customer service is good.

I agree 100% I have them on my kimber 300wsm with muzzle brake for 5 years and a year ago on a very cold hunt front ring cracked I do lock tight them and check them every time I'm going on a hunt. The people at Talley sent me a new one right away only question they asked was it a front or back. Nice to do business with a company like that. I do have a 4 to 15 ziess 40mm on it.

Hey Rick....I just thought I would share something you may want to try... I have switched from Loctite to Vibra-Tite VC-3. It does not set up hard/brittle...does not affect torque settings when installing screws...adsorbs impact better....and screws can be removed and replaced 2-3 times without needing re-application. Not quite as user friendly in the application...but cleans up easily, and have even used it to "pad" the interior surface of the rings, once they are lapped. Never had any movement, and is easier to remove if needed.

This is a good suggestion. Loctite is fine until it's time to reinstall or change the setup. Many RTV products available from the automotive industry function at least as well, yet never get hard and crusty.

I have had talleys on many, many rifles, including 378 Wby (unbraked), 416 Wby (braked) and 460 Wby (also braked), and have never had a problem with any of them and mostly with NF scopes. I do always lap the rings, and loctite the bases only.

Are in the process of buying a Nightforce NXS 3.5-15x50mm off a fellow member here and plan on alternating it from my .308 Savage FCP 10 and my 300 WSM Tikka T3 Lite. A Weaver Grand Slam 4.5-14x40mm has been on top of my Tikka in Talley one piece rings for several 100 rounds with no issues at all. The Weaver weighs per product info 17.5ozs . HOWEVER the Nightforce website lists the weight of the 3-15x50mm at 30ozs or 58% heavier.

Will the Talley One piece aluminum rings be strong and durable enough to be used with the NXS on the Tikka? I already have a 30mm set of Talley's for the Tikka and I'm not concerned about the Savage as it's heavier non-magnum rifle.

You should check-out DNZ scope mounts they have a true 1 piece base with cap rings and are made out of billet aluminum and they make a heavier mode for the Night Force. I have them on every rifle I own.

I've tried a lot of things.

Since I figured out how to index rings (typically by bedding the rear) I use NOthing on cap screws but a torque wrench.

Concentricity is key. We spend a lot of effort loading concentric ammo, I'm surprised how few people care about concentric scope rings.

Just because I like RTV thread sealant doesn't mean I use it on everything! Great for bases and rails though.

I have Talley's on all my rifles from 22-250 up to 375 H&H. However on my 300 Ultra Mag I tried the DNZ mounts & rings.
Love them both.

I used them on a Weatherby MK V 300 Weatherby with a Night force NXS 12-42 x 50 scope and had no movement. It doesn't have a break on it though so I don't know if it would hold up to that. I didn't lap the rings on that one either.

Called Talley CS and yes they are great people extremely helpful and friendly. They said mounted and torqued properly their light weight rings will be fine on my Savage 116 WW in 7mmstw, Tikka 300wsm, M700 338wm and even my Savage smokeless ML and Encore ML which both are notoriously hard on scopes and scope mounts. My Savage 10ML-II smokeless ML can push a 300-325 grain saboted bullet at a MV of 2450fps the same as a 375 H&H.

For the rifles I told them the light weight rings were going on they recommended 20-25 inch pounds for the receiver screws and 15-18 inch pounds on the cap screws.
At tsquare's suggestion I will give Vibra-tite VC-3 a try instead of my old stand by of blue Loctite and here is why. As I have more rifles than scopes and had to pull two off other rifles to put them on two muzzleloaders this year so my sons could use them deer hunting. I know I know just buy more scopes, but I only buy made in USA or Japan rifle scopes and that gets expensive quickly.

Both these scopes (Bushnell Elite 4200's) had been on these rifles for 5-6 years and I can attest that the blue Loctite worked perfectly and the force required to loosen the screws confirmed it had not failed to do its job. Then came the cleaning it off the ring cap screws and out of the screw hole threads. HOLLY CRAP what a HUGE PITA that was. I used every cleaning solvent I had and I have most also tried soaking 30-40hrs in acetone and then denatured alcohol and the dried Loctite was still a real SOB to remove from the screw hole threads. Unfortunately I did not have a bush small enough to be used to clean out the screw holes and only had pipe cleaners available. The screws themselves weren't as difficult, but still surprised me as I thought the dried Loctite would more or less just wipe off after a good over night soaking in acetone. Well at least I know I am preparing my scope rings properly and the Loctite is adhering extremely well as a result.

Thanks again to all who replied. I guess I should have just called Talley to begin with, but I place a high value on being able to consult reliable personal first hand experiences like the ones I can call upon here.

Talley is my go to mounts and I really like them ! have talked to the owners at the shot show and they are great guys ! I have them on anything from my .204 to my .300 WSM and they perform flawlessly !

I am intrigued, could you share with me as well as others who might be interested in how to best apply Vibra-Tite VC-3 to scope rings and bases to maximize it's usefulness and minimize the mess and waste. I would like to order some today, but first a few questions if you please.

I have used a lot of RTV products in the past and they tend to be rather messy and wasteful. Lastly as the product information I found states after it's applied it dries in seconds, what is the shelf life of the stuff once the bottle is opened and you use some?
All the RTV products I have used in the past, once you open them their shelf life is very limited.
