I do most of my hunting with my CTR 6.5 creedmoor and my AR-15 Daniel defense. Both are very accurate as far as hunting goes. I did change out the trigger in the AR for a Geissle 2 stage and that makes a world of difference. I enjoy them equally. Get both.

You didn't leave an option for "Other"... I wouldn't suggest either of those. Especially not an AR10 for precision accuracy. I love my AR's, but they're never going to be precision rifles like my bolt guns.

Here's my recommendation if you want something in 6.5CM...

Also, they're never going to pass that H.R. 7115 bill. It's too draconian, and to infringing.
Not to get into a political debate but take it from a NYer, do not bet on the 2nd amendment for much longer...especially with how lazy republican voters were in the recent election, I am a registered republican and am embarrassed by our voter turn out. This coupled with the younger College generation (typically liberal/democratic in nature) actually getting out and voting more than any other voting year. I fear it is only a matter of time before we become partially regulated like Canada or worse.

The recent elections had nothing to do with lazy republican voters. It has been proven that there was nation-wide voter fraud by the Democrats, but nobody seems to be doing jack crap about it. They stole all the seats they gained, and without fraud, the probably would have lost a few in the House.

The younger generations are a bunch of brainwashed MK Ultra patients that don't even know they've been brainwashed. They've been indoctrinated so hard, their professors could tell them that up was down, and that the sky was green, and they would argue with anyone who said different.

We will not let it get to the point of no return before the sleeping giant decides to get up and put Big Brother back in his place. They leftists and commies are pushing really hard right now, and they're only ounces away from pushing too far.

This is literally the only reason I started thinking about going with the ar10. That and i could get a 308 upper and swap them out.

I do t think it can happen anytime soon. It's almost impossible to get an amendment now with the division of politics. Second since the AR is in common use it clearly falls under the 2nd. A few things are heading to the courts because of this. Like the ban on them in certain parts of the country. And now with two new judges on the bench we have a good chance. I hunt with my 15's a bunch. More than anything but for what you want get a bolt gun. Then buy a 6.5 grendel for you ar. Decent distance and still lite and quick.
As stated just buy the lower and keep it. I think we will see the hearing protection act before they ban ar's.
I can't believe that didn't get passed with the the gop in control last. Man they know how to drag feet.

The stupid safe act went into effect over night here in NY. The US government may not put a law into effect anytime soon but more and more states keep regulating guns. Eventually there will be a tipping point and the government will soon follow!

As one who has hunted in the field with an AR10/LR308 for 3 years. Go with a bolt gun.
The weight of these gas guns just ain't worth it in the field.
If you truly wanna get the distance a gas gun is not your best choice. They are great for my purpose (dispatching as many running hogs as possible) but I would not even think twice about hiking this system into open country for hours on end.

Well sounds like the bolt gun is my best bet. I think I knew that, it's just not as fun. I'll probably be getting the tikka ctr when cabelas runs it on sale, I've got a lot of cabelas points. And start piecing together the ar10. I appreciate all the help guys.

Good call on the humble bolt action. I second what a few other have mentioned regarding the 5r Gen 2. I have one in 260 and it is becoming one of my favorites. I just got it scoped up and ready to shoot a couple months ago. I took it to ND while I was pheasant hunting and shot a coyote at 521 yards and a whitetail at 250 this year. The only sucky part about remingtons is their triggers, even on these $1k plus rifles. I just always plan on adding $150 to the price for a Timney.

I have a buddy who has the Tikka CTR and he really likes it.

That's because Paul Ryan and Mitch McConell are spineless RINOs secretly pushing the Dem agenda. Didn't you find it odd that both times the HPA was up for a vote, within a couple days of the vote, a "mass-shooting" happened...And for the sake of everyone's "feelings" they shelved the vote... Coincidence?

I'm telling you, don't rule out that 700 5R GenII... I have 2 of them (.308 Win & .300WM), haven't shot the 300 yet, but hte .308 Win regularly shoots 1 ragged hole 3-shot groups that are sub-1/4 MOA...From a stock rifle.

Looking for advise and opinions. I am looking for a rifle for antelope hunts and to eventually get into shooting 1000yds. But it will primarily be for hunting. As of now I do not reload so I have decided on 6.5 creedmore. I want a relatively light rifle but still capable for long range and bench shooting. I had fully decided on the tikka ctr until I read about the H.R. 7115 (house bill designed to ban building ars and lower parts kits). Kind of want to build one while I can. I know the ar10 will be heavier and it will cost more to build the way I want. Do you think I should go with the tikka or the ar10.

It's all a matter of perspective, "IF" your concern is the H.R. 7115 then go with the AR-10 6.5 CM build. Despite the negativity, there are plenty of AR-10 owners capable at 1K+ yards with their set-up.

But "IF" weight and inherent accuracy (by design), then go with the Tikka CTR. With regards to "other" option, there are plenty of choices, especially "IF" your budget allows it.

Good luck!
