Anyone shot deer with the 190grn Sub-x at 1050ish fps??

Maplewood bullets can make you some real soft lead bullets flat front and even hollow point. Hawk bullets.ake some pretty soft heavies too. I learned all this messing around with old lever guns and now that data translates well to suppression subsonic hunting because your speed is limited you have to manipulate weight frontal meplate and construction

If you want better terminal performance definitely use a purpose built subsonic lathe turned mono projectile like a Lehigh, Maker etc
These work way better than any cup & core or lead projectile ever will subsonic
For guys with a 450 Bushmaster the Lehigh 220 is incredible
The down side is the 450 is much harder to get "silent" with a suppressor than the 30 cals
Yes these projectiles are much more expensive than conventional ones but how much more is an animal on the ground worth to you than a wounded one getting away ?

In my experience 30 cal subs in general suck for reliably killing medium size game.

I built a 458 Socom and shoot the 500 grain Maker Rex when I want to hunt with subsonic.

I haven't shot anything with it personally but a friend who has a ranch in central Texas uses the 190 sub-x TAP on everything from hogs to deer. He uses both a CZ and Howa bolt guns as well as an AR 16 inch. They have thermals on everything and they're all suppressed. I think a 10.5 suppressed AR would be closer to true subsonic but he tells me that the bolts guns are really quiet. I think the 1-8 twist of most 300 BO guns is important but I can't argue with the groups out of the Savage which in 308 is likely 1-10.
Yes it's 1:10.

I tried this bullet for my work, which is hunting coyotes full time. In two nights I killed 8 coyotes and two badgers with it. Of those I had to shoot 3 coyotes and one of the badgers more than once. All of the shots that required follow-ups were what I would consider very acceptable hits on the first round. I abandoned the bullet and ordered some maker 200 grain REX bullets, but been waiting on a shipping snafu for new brass. It came in yesterday, so hopefully I'll find a load quick and get the 300 blk back into the field for another test run. I like the concept, but am not convinced for my uses that it is superior to a supersonic but suppressed 22-250.

One thing that suprised me, the sub-x would ricochet like crazy even after a pass through shot on a coyote. I wasn't too suprised they were bad that way shooting paper, but I didn't expect that after shooting through an animal. So be careful, this bullet does some wierd stuff.
What velocity were you running them? I figured the faster the better so I got mine up to 1050 but I debated even going 1100

I originally used some 185 grain grain hard cast gas checked (15 bhn) that were designed for 30-30. They worked quite well and really flattened but the fella who made them for me passed away and I do not cast

Do they usually give an exit wound in 30 cal?

Here is a picture of some of my test Bullets retrieved from my back stop. The couple I have recovered have been the same. Broadside shots have been clean 1" plus exits. I am confident in maker and outlaw Bullets. They are very similar. I do include a slight crimp to help with consistency

Thanks
Buck

When I tested the Makers EXP subs, I used a 1/4" thick piece of leather over a 1# bologna pack which was backed by 1/2" particle board with 1 gallon jugs of water after. At 75 yards I got penetration into the 5th jug. They functioned better than a broadhead from a crossbow. My wife's excalibur assassin (420 fps) penetration to the 3rd jug with the same medium using a 200 grain Grizzlystik XXL (2" cut)

With my limited experience with the 190s I am confident they do expand / do more damage than a 220 ELD-X shot at the same speed. I have only used both on squirrels, but the ELD-X was same size in as out, as one would expect. Shot 5 squirrels yesterday with the 190 SUB-X and exit holes were definitely bigger than entrance. Accuracy is the same for both in my gun at 50yds.

I may use them this year, but still have a bunch of 530grn outlaw bullets for my 458 SOCOM, so that may go with me instead. I just hate the AR platform and would rather use a bolt gun. When it comes to subs the only way to increase energy on target is weight. 530grns is a straight up Thors hammer of lead.
