The only area I've concentrated on hunting Grouse is the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This was an annual pilgrimage in order to enjoy the Fall hunting and the outdoors scenery and weather. This is probably my favorite time of the year and my most favorite activity when shared with friends. The drumming is captivating when you walk through the deeper woods in search of those stubby winged targets.

With a bag limit of 5/day and 10 in possession per hunter, we didn't have a great supply for the feasts we planned for later in the year. So we often took a break about midday in order to have a roast Grouse lunch. Then a short rest before heading back out to finish the day off with more hunting.

Great times and greater memories!😊

Years ago there was a fellar that posted a lot on Marlin forum, I have forgot his handle but always loved his posts about grouse hunting with a 22, have read it's tough to bring guns into Canada these days, wife will retire in a couple years and might get to make a run up that way, will investigate when time gets closer. thanks for sharing the hunt.

I've read several stories of hunting grouse with .22LR and it is fascinating. I enjoy the countryside of the UP enough where I don't feel pushed to find another location, at least for grouse!

I've had one other genuinely exciting experience hunting grouse and it was in Canada.

While hunting moose with two of my friends on a guided hunt in Canada, the guide and I went off to locate some moose and found a ton of grouse instead! He suggested sticks to which I just chuckled but he explained that they never saw humans and didn't show any fear.

Yep! The work of a couple of minutes and we had grouse for all of us for the next couple of meals. Roasted grouse on an open campfire. One of my favorites!

While grouse hunting in the UP the stick of choice is my superposed 20 ga. The clear cut logging roads are custom made for grouse hunters, always better after a couple of years of growth though. The clear, crisp Fall weather surrounded by all those trees in Fall colors is the crowning glory of grouse hunting!

Lunch by the Middle Branch of the Ontonegon River and a quick nap, the best days in the world.
