Any Model 70 love out there?

I had a Stealth which really ignited my love for bolt action rifles. I sold it a few years ago and wish I had held onto it, but needed the money for a different project.

My oldest Son, Logan with "Winchester" the Healer (Aka Chester).
And also with the Winchester feather wt. 270wsm that I gave him as a high-school graduation gift back in 2012.
He can flat out shoot that rifle with the loads we worked up for it.

I have a post 64 model 70 Featherweight carbine in 270w, hard to research the carbine model, has carbine stamped in action, all I can say is short barrelled standard Winchester walnut stock and bolt action, I spent the time and improved the barrel float clearance. I love it but for a little gun most find it has a bit of a kick 😂

I have been putting together rifles in the winter because I enjoy it and end up with more than makes sense so I started making stocks to get my building fix and I am a stock crawler so when I shoot prone I need a longer length of pull so I made these stocks with length of pull adjustable and comb adjustable. Two are hunting rifles, the braked rifle is a pre64 in 30-06 I have hunted with for 35 years and I gave it a facelift and new stock last winter. The blond one is from a maple tree I killed, it was putting oxygen in the air couldn't have that, the target rifle I got from that tree and copied an Anschutz small bore rifle I shoot and I used to shoot Highpower with this rifle until they made using optics legal and switched to a ruger precision rifle because with a scope on the m70 I can't feed it with stripper clips anymore for rapidfire

I love the 270 win, especially in a model 70. Blast from the past in the pics below. 30 years ago next month I took my model 70 stainless classic FWT 270 win with a McMillan FWT stock to the Northwest Territories sheep hunting. Put a 130gr Barnes X in the front shoulder and right out the hind quarter. A Dall sheep hunt in 1994 cost $6500. I miss the good old days.

Anyone else a Model 70 weirdo like me? Seems we are becoming a rarity these days. I'd love to see some pics and specs of other 70's out there. I'll get the ball rolling because I want to give a big shout out to Diamond T rifles in Craigmont ID, one of the few shops that will work on Model 70's these days. They do a fantastic job, I couldn't be happier with the build I just got back from them. Rifle below is my 90's vintage stainless classic in 300 PRC with a 22" proof barrel, SRS ti two port break, and a McMillan game hunter handle. It's been lightened a bit and has a titanium Murphy Percision pic rail. It shoots 215 Bergers and 199 Hammers in the 4's all day. Let's see some more 70's.
Good looking shoot'n iron

These days I think the Mod 70 would be one of the last actions chosen for a LR accuracy build, but that said, I have a Mod 70 in .338 Edge that is one of my most accurate rifles. Has a Benchmark barrel (wouldn't be my choice but bought this from a guy who needed the money). Has the Coyote laminated stock, which again, wouldn't be my choice, but I am not changing a thing!

My .416 Remington is a Mod 70 with a walnut stock. Has slayed 9 Cape buffalo, an elephant, a hippo, an eland, and some plains game. Booked a hunt in Tanzania for 2025; I have 3 Cape buffalo on license. I had the barrel cut down to 22." Love this rifle; the stock is a bit clubby but helps with recoil. Only wish the pad was a bit softer.

I like my M70 rifles, but I have never considered them as long range rifles. I have used them insed 400 yards with no issues. I have never tried further, they are no setup for further, never practiced with them for further.

Why not for LR? Justify this statement. You can get a Timney for it, it has a integral recoil lug. The action grabs the stock better then a 700 or 700 clone. I completely disagree with that statement.

Well, just look what wins in competitions...it isn't Mod 70s. They once ruled the 1000 yard line back when the 300 Win Mag was the favorite LR cartridge (ostensibly because the flat bottom didn't torque) but not today. Custom action have faster lock times, stiffer actions, etc etc.
