Good day everyone, I thought I'd share a few of my favorite Axis deer photos. I've been hunting Axis in the Texas Hill country with a rifle and a camera for over 30 years. Incredibly beautiful animals and very, very tasty. I looked back to see if I've posted some of these before but I can't find it if I did so disregard if need be. Take Care, Roland

Yes they truly are delicious. I haven't eaten a WT in over 20 years. An Axis doe is about as good eating as a man can find IMHO. I don't remember killing a doe in the last 30 years or so that wasn't caring a fetus. They must get bred back almost instantly after giving birth. Very prolific breeders.

Dave In Texas Axis bucks can be hard horned anytime during the year depending on when they were born. The majority of the bucks with be thru growing and rubbed out by June 1st. The will spend the summer fighting and roaring and breaking each other up. April and May will have a mix of big velvet bucks and some that ar freshly rubbed out that shouldn't be busted up yet. Late May is my favorite before it gets brutal hot and they are almost exclusively nocturnal. It's hot enough in May already but sometimes not full summer yet.Good Luck with your choice!
