8mm Thread

Varberger ,
My apologies for not posting the dummy 8mm LRH cartridge,
I felt that a necked up 6.5 Pro did not truly represent the actual cartridge and chose not to put the photo up ...

Here at last is the real deal, with 200 gr Accubond .............

......

Thank you @Swamplord for posting the pictures. The cartridge looks as impressive as its features you described before. For me as a 8mm - addict your cartridge or something very close is a worthwhile goal. I do hope for all of us that ammo - producers will pay big attention to your creation and adopt it for regular production. Please hold us updated concerning the cartridge's further development.

Anybody mess with the 8mm 190 gr Swift Scirocco bullets ?

Looks like a great bullet but really should have been 200 grs or heavier ......

when will bullet makers ever get it right ?

I'm still waiting on Berger to produce some high-BC 8mm bullets before I actually have reamers cut for my 8mm wildcats.

Still waiting on high-BC .257 bullets, as well...

**** , we be getting a lot of this BS lately !!

The Swift website actually took my order, pmt and all, with confirmation email .......

Mud

where will your 8mm cats place in this lineup ?

I'm building the 8mm LRH at the moment and going to chop up my Rem700 7mmRM into a 32 Nosler Imp that I developed .... longer neck, 3 gr mo capacity & no "aught-6 length" castration ! Reamer will allow seating the 200 gr Accubond to base of neck and still utilize Accurate 5 rnd mags ..... Will also work with the 200 TSX and 220 gr Sierra SBT bullets ......

Maybe Swift consider the Americans unworthy of their 8mm Scirocco ? haha

The 200 gr Nosler Accubond is available, may have a higher bc and I have 5 boxes to play with , so no big deal anyway,

190 Scirocco, that would be a useful combo for several bullets. Woodleigh makes a 225 PP fr the .325 Win, that might be something to try if you can find it . but 200 AB is very good. i have just shot the 200 Partion in the 8x57 IS , but it sure shot great and recovered bullets in test media was very high rest weight on them,

Askins used 250 grain Speer in his 8mm wildcat, so the idea of good heavy bullets is not new in the States, hope its a new spring for the 8mms .

My dream bullet would be a sleek 225 grain high bc and sd. One match version with a alu tip , almost needle point and one bonded version. Perhaps one solid also, mono metal .
but if one have to use 2 that is around is 200 AB and 200 SMK / CC.

I am waiting for news from gunsmith on a 8mm project on how that is turning up , so bit exitement of what it will be like . 8x57 IS it is , but that is for having a refiller of the great standard round that i have used for a several years .

Unfortunately i must have a new M98 action since the old was worn out by many before me and drilled wrong and reheated wrong it turned out in the end hidden under the coating before i got it . So it is new blank sheets to start with, maybe a Argentine, maybe a Brazillian, who knows what it will be .

I am not sure if this helps you or not, but both Cutting Edge and GS Custom will custom make pretty much any bullet you want - in copper of course.

Yup !

I have Dan & crew at Cutting Edge addressing my request as we speak !

My request was based on mathematical equations I used to arrive at a theoretical bullet length and weight that produces a bc that is satisfactory for my intended purposes while at the same time will also benefit users of factory chamberings ..

While my 8mm LRH wildcat with a 9 twist barrel can handle a much longer, heavier, higher bc bullet ...
Both Dan and I agreed the initial bullet should be of a length, weight that will be stabilized in standard 10 twist 8mm factory barrels ......

The bullet will be of the MTH (Match Tactical Hunting) design and will have a considerable improvement in bc over all current 8mm (.323") bullets on the market,

Anybody want to start a build on a 8mm Lapua Mag ? Improved ?

If all goes well, I hope to be shooting this bullet well before Barnady, Berler and Spierra ever even bat an eye at the 8mm guys .......

...........

I have a Gwerz (sp?) Large Ring Turkish Mauser reserved for an 8mm/26-Nosler. Will it like your bullet?

That is a very good question !

I have a (1938) Turkish Mauser in 8X57 ..... in perfect working order too, but I have no clue as to what the barrel twist is ..... about 20 years ago I got the Mauser bug and had to have 'em all... got a very nice 1909 Argentine I can rebarrel if needed,

anybody here know what the Turkish Mausers in 8X57mm were twisted at ?
