8mm Thread

I wish we could talk Berger into making some 8mm VLD's & Hybids in the 180-250gr range. That would be sweet for the 8mm Titan, if I ever decide to create it...Which, if Berger will make the bullets, I'll have the reamers and dies built....

8mm Titan...It's like the bean field of dreams. If you build it, they will drop. :D

Are you going to take a 50 cal and neck it to 8mm?

You have my attention with this 8mm Titan...

Realistically you could take a 404 Jeffries and neck it to .323 and end up with a sweet little toy! IF Berger will make some 220's or 250's for it.

Since the Ultra Mags already have the 404 Jeff as parent case, it would be much more convient to convert one of those into .323/8mmS.
If not Berger will come with decent LR - bullets for .323, someone else will do so! It is just a matter of time, and I personally don't care about the producer's name.

.505 gibbs case? Dunno. Many a pewpew will be had regardless. It is a very nice caliber. With the proliferation of .338's it's a bit overshadowed I think, though

I was just talking to a good friend of mine who has large knowledge about almost any current and former type of rifle and rifleammo , impressive! He suggested a 8mmS/.323 on basis of the 375 Ruger. I love that thought, because it could give the opportunity to something extraordinary like a high performance 8 LRM. Maybe someone is willing to realize the project, or we might try it alone over here, on the old continent. :D
Another good idea of him is maybe to convert/ neck down the 338 Norma Mag to 8mmS/.323!?

8mm Dasher. Cut a 50 cal case in half and neck the remaining down to .323... this may be a project worth the tinkering with!

If a 243 WSM is doing it, the 8 mm Dasher can double it!

Varberger, I have done that and am in the process of building a rifle for my 7mm Long Range Hunter and it will have a second bbl in 8mm LRH, the 8mm barrel will take some time to get but I am looking into cutting back and rechambering a take off 8mm Rem Mag bbl I have laying around ,
The theoretical bullet we are trying to make will be a LR 250 gr 338 cal resized in a 323 bullet die, I hope it will work out as it a bit of sizing down to do !

Here is a Quick Design print of cartridge (not to scale) estimated h20 capacity is 111.4 gr,
I do have a print with case dimensions on computer and can post here if you want,
also have a dummy cartridge I can take a photo of (6.5 PRO necked up to 8mm) if you want to see the 8mm-338 Norma 35* shoulder cartridge.

Gosh, that's really impressive! Like a dream come true. 250gr 8mm LR bullets on 111gr really progessivly burning powder ... what kind of MV are you expecting then? A cartridge with such a performance would be more than a serious competitor for both the .30s and .338s! I love the idea, and yes, I'd like to see the photo of the dummy. Thanks a lot for sharing your project and please, keep us updated!

that's a tank of a cartridge. But what about throat erosion?

If that is the only thing that comes to mind ......

then I suggest the 8x57 Mauser is where one should hang !

how come every time you post one of your wildcats you get the same stupid reply. sure your tired of it and I am tired of reading it. no wonder you went to facebook

probably just messin with me .........

There is a couple wildcats that I am doing that I dare not post here ......

something about maxed out Lapua brass on the 6.5X55 Swede case & 6mm bullets in a super light Tikka T3 with 5 round factory mags .......

There might be one or two who are asking "simple" questions in between, but most others on this thread, me included, are very interested in everything which is related to 8mm. Especially, when it's about high performance ammo! :) @Swamplord, I'm eagerly waiting for the pictures of your dummy - round. Don't be frustrated there is no reason for that.

No worries,

Everybody has opinions and preferences , I do my share of messing around with the mini cartridge shooters, I just about make the local 7mm-08 and 270 Win fanatics cry or resort to near violence when I call their pet cartridges wifey and kiddie peashooters ... lmao

All in good fun of course ........

the 8mm Long Range Hunter is an official proprietary wildcat cartridge design and belongs to me....
the project is under way, still working out the details and process about squeezing the 250 gr 338 cal bullets to .323", will post update here when I have more info ,,,,

I picked up a box of 8mm 200 gr Accubonds and will load up a dummy round tonight and post some pics here, it will be a necked up 6.5 PRO ....the actual 8mm LRH case design has been maximized for top capacity possible with the 338 Norma Mag case ....

Even with the 200 gr Accubond this cartridge will greatly improve hunting performance in the 8mm caliber .....

A 250 gr Berger Hunting Hybrid bullet will transform this cartridge into an absolute long range hammer that will easily keep pace with the 338 Lapua and 338 Edge with 300 gr bullets ...

Berger would corner the Euro market with such an awesome bullet for sure, I have no doubts about that ...... next step would be to get Norma to produce brass and 8mm excellence will be achieved !

A cartridge like your 8 LRH would be welcomed on the European market, no doubt about it. Many people are waiting for something like it, because the 8mm calibre hasn't been so popular throughout Europe as it currently is. This would be like Christmas and Easter at the same day ... :) The cooperation of Norma shouldn't be an issue since they produce 8mm brass (8x57IS + 8x68S) for several European companies. Cooperation with American companies like Nosler, Weatherby are already present. If Berger would come "around the corner" with that kind of bullets you described, your project should almost be self-going. Merry Christmas!
