7prc

Just picked up a 20" X Caliber barrel for a CDG build that I have in the works. Decided to go with the 7 PRC as my Dad was looking for a new short barreled X-Bolt and already has a 6.5 PRC and a .300 Win Mag so of the offerings available the 7 PRC worked best for his use. That way I can develop a load that works in both rifles.

I don't think I'm going to get 3.
My barrel is a 24" proof 1-8.4 and the 180 factory was 2880 fps and 175 factory 2830 fps so barrel is definitely slower.
I'm loading 175 elites at 2925 fps with 66.5gr RL26. No pressure signs but the primer pockets are so loose I may not get 3 loading.
I pullled a entire box of the 175 factory a used my load.
I knocked out one of the primers and they look like 215 primer to me. I seated primer again and there very little resistance seating it on the unfired brass. It's some of the worst brass I've used to date.
Some of the brass I loaded the other night will be 3rd firing and I had to look to make sure I pushed a primer in because there was zero resistance.
I will shoot them and see what happens.
Well im sorry to hear that. I was hoping for a bit better, but here we are in May, so hopefully we wont have to wait to much longer now. Plus I am seeing a little more speed out of the Factory 175's. Mine are running about 100 FPS faster than what you are seeing. Interesting!

I'm not expecting the 7PRC to do anything that my current 7WSM isn't doing. The WSM can launch 180s @ just shy of 3,000 fps without issue. But .... I prefer not killing my brass and rifles so I typically shoot the 162-168 class bullets at that speed.

I'm keeping an open mind with regard to the 7PRC. I just wish it would get here. By the time it does, my 7WSM will have around 1,000 rnds on it (again) and will probably need another new barrel soon.

I've not had any rifles in the 7mm family until recently, but have added a 7x57 and .280AI to the arsenal in the last couple of years. I had a Bergara B14 in .300WM that just didn't shoot as well as I'd hoped, so I decided to rebarrel it to 7mm PRC. I ordered a 22" CarbonSix prefit for it and my brother and I got it spun on yesterday (headspaced perfectlty--kudos to Bergara and CarbonSix!). In the process of getting a Christensen stock fitted to the Bergara action and then we'll bed it. I have 160 rounds of factory ammo so I'm also hoping to get a couple loadings out of that before I can get my grubby paws on some Peterson brass. Hoping it's a shooter as I'd like for it to be my next elk rifle and shave a couple pounds off my current rifle.

Well I didn't own a 7RM or a 7SAUM already, so the PRC was on a wish list and I had nothing to compare it to. so a 180gn + bullet traveling over 3000fps made good sense to me. And based on the performance of the 6.5PRC and 300PRC seemed like a good choice, and it was!

We shouldn't really have to justify why we want to shoot a particular rifle, if you want it and like it, buy it and enjoy it…
Aight but I wasn't responding to you so why are you trying to justify it??
