7mm STW Reloading Thread

Kyron....how was your accuracy when at 80+ grains?

My go to load with 180s in my Sendero is 78 grains of Retumbo at .020 OTL which is at 3040 and .5 MOA out to 800 yards that I tested.

Just did a powder test (1 grain increments) of N570 and 180 VLDs. Started at 78 grains (3020 fps) 79 - 3047, 80 - 3121, 81 - 3168, 82 - 3215, 83 - 3280. One of the three rounds of 83 grains had a slight injector mark. But 82+ grains opened up to 2" plus MOA. I had decent accuracy at 80 grains.

Will shoot again as I feel I was more the issue then the gun. But 82 grains or less is my max. Day was 60 degrees. I use a shooting Chrony.

I also shot a three round with my go to 78 Grain retumbo load. It went 3044 which is spot on with my drops out to 800 yards, so I think the speeds are close to accurate.

The N570 is giving awesome groups and speed with my 7RM Sendero and 180 VLDs.

I looked back when I tested Retumbo last summer and I got to 79 grains and at or under 3100 fps when I had bolt lift and ejector marks. Looks like I can get more speed without pressure with N570.....but will not give up the .5 MOA I have with Retumbo if I can't get it with N570. I did have one N570 load that was near .5 MOA....but not a good shooting day for me.

Fun stuff

Best group was ~1 1/4 inch horizontal and less than half an inch vertical. That was at 300yards with 80.9 grains N570.

Approximation from memory. Logs are many miles away right now.

I have a Rem 700 sender SF1. 26" barrel and a brake on it.
Load is
78 gr RL25
RP brass, 8 mag necked to 7
Rem. 9 1/2 mag primer
160 gr Nosler AB
COL. 3.650
Average velocity was 3132 for a 5 shot string. group size .435" one hole.
had a 3 shot group that measured .220" with 77 gr. 3047 ave. velocity
not so good at 77.5 but it could be me.3117 ave.
I want to get a good load for the 168 Berg. VLD with H1000 or RL25.
Anybody have any luck with that?

They even have load data available for RL50 for the STW but I don't know of anyone who's used it to great success in the STW.

Thankfully there are lots of available options.

I typically use rl25 with my 140 ab load in my 7stw but I am working with rl26 and rl50 using the 175 eld-x in my rifle. The 8" twist shilen ought to spin the pill pretty well. I've had a hard time getting out to test lately though.
I had rl50 and I5010 doing well with 171-175 grain bullets in previous barrels; you are usually at a slightly compressed load (86 grains or so) to get to 3100 fps or so with them and 175's.

There ya go.

I want my H870 back... . HA!

I keep buying up H1000 whenever I see it because it seems to get the job done in all of my magnums.

It isn't always the best but it always works.

RL25 and33 seem to be the next most versatile and dependable.

3400 FPS with a 180 VLD in a STW you are way over pressure.

Velocity = Pressure

3301 fps with 180 vlds not 3400. On my 5th loading with same brass. Using magneto speed. I have proof the magneto speed thru my Ohelar 35P and they averaged + or - 2.5 fps
