7mm STW Brotherhood - For those who shoot the 7mm Shooting Times Westerner

Since it is a 270 STW I was able to find a load with the 165 Matrix that shoots to 1/2" at two hundred yards (over flags), not sure of the speed though. Thanks for the advice

No, my wife is not a black belt. She is a QA Engineer though!!!!

It would look nice with my two other Model 70's, both are Featherweights. One is a pushfed 7mm-08 in a laminated stock and a new FN (US made) stainless 30-06. Then the stainless Ruger No1 in 7mm STW.

Gotta be at or over 3300, what powders have you been using? That is one BadAss 270.

What a way to round out a awesome Winchester collection, not to mention that the Laredo's in that caliber are rare and limited edition. I am telling you, if
I didn't have some irons in some other fires right now, that Laredo would join it's Sharpshooter brethren. ( he might even throw in some brass, if he dosen't, I will) hint hint.

ATTENTION:::, if anybody from " The Brotherhood" buys Butterbeans' rifle, I will throw in two boxes of Federal Premium ammo, loaded with 150 grain Bear Claw bullets. Actually, I think they are Speer Grand Slams. This is my way of helping out a friend, and to keep it in the family. PM me with your address,( after the sale of course ), and I will put them in the mail pronto like!!! Good luck, and enjoy. After all, what are " Brothers" for? :D:rolleyes:gun)

I was using Retumbo Powder that shot well, can't remember the load at the moment but believe it was 78 gr. I'm going to try 79 and 80 to see if they shoot better and take my chrony also. But not sure if I can get any better than 1/2" at 200 yds. I do my load development when we have a Benchrest match, that way I already have flags set up at the range. I stay at the range overnight so I get plenty of time to shoot my hunting rifles and tune them. My last match is the end of September so I will know in a couple of weeks.

I would like to say that the rifle ButterBean has for sale is quite an impressive looking rifle, and at a super price to boot.If I didn't have deer lease money due I would be very tempted to add it to my safe.......Nice rifle dude.........PD

How did you choose the 270STW? That caliber still remains popular even in the wsm era, is it the bullet selection? It seems as though the 7mm has more bullet options and weights to choose from? That always puzzled me.

I found it for sale at a gunshop near me that deals with high dollar rifles. The price was too good to pass up, so now I own it. Under $900.00 I thought maybe the barrel was shot out but should last another 4-500 shots as long as I only shoot 3 then let it cool. Then I will rebarrel to the 7 STW as I really like the 7mm for hunting. The 165 Matrix at 78 gr of Retumbo was clocking today at 3075 fps and it looks like I can go higher safely.

I'm going to try the Matrix bullets too. I'd never heard of them until recently. I still like the partitions and the Gamekings shoot nice in my gun too.

I think I've rooted out the issues I've had with varying accuracy with my 7mmstw to the stock screws wanting to loosen up. One day it'll dump a sub one inch group at 200 yards, the next week everyone else( my other toys) is shooting an inch at 200 and it won't hold 2 or 3inches. I get home and the **** stock screws have loosened up 1/2 turn- just enough for it to walk in the bedding. I'm going to get some hex-head or torx screws for it and possibly re-stock to a laminate. That'll fix the issues I've had.

It is a 8x32 x40mm Bushnell elite 4200-- set in leopold rings/bases(the beuhlers that were on it weren't enough and were retired)

The barrel on the rig is an unknown brand custom cut to 24".
It is in a standard bdl stock with a pachmeyer white-line pad and free-floated barrel channel

The standard safety is gone in favor on a win-style 3 position on bolt-- allows for easy bolt take-down also

The trigger is standard remington (walker group) tuned to 3.5# with zero creep, but I am thinking of replacing it since the safety has been removed-- any ideas??? --jewel-- rifle basix--?? do I even need a lh trigger anymore with a 3-***. on bolt??
