7mm STW Brotherhood - For those who shoot the 7mm Shooting Times Westerner

NEW BUILD UPDATE! , hi guys, just got back from gunshop, and my barrel action is together. Now, there is one little caveat, and I mean little. He cleaned the threads, and screwed it together, and got PERFECT headspace. He said it was absolutely dead nuts perfect. The only thing is that because the barrel was already stamped, the lettering is not in line with where it usually sits, meaning that the words , 7mm STW, on the left side are just under the edge of where the side of the stock is. He said, that it can be corrected, but it will involve cutting new threads, running a finish reamer through it, and another 150 bucks. Which in turn, means a shorter barrel. I opted to leave it alone. I will get the barrel engraved on the side, after I get it back. Otherwise, it looks great, and I took him my stock from my 7 mag , 700p, just so he can test fire it. Also took him some ammo. Paid in full. Will pick it up the beginning of next week. My son graduates high school this weekend, and I will be toooooo busy celebrating!!
I don't think the deer will mind too much if the writing is a little crooked, do you? I have decided on a Bobby Hart, LRT stock. It is a laminated, target style , similar in looks to a " A5". for now I am going to use the 700 P stock. The stock can be seen at Stockys website, under Bobby Hart, ( keyword). It is pretty cool looking, and feels good in hand! Take care to all, good shooting!!!!

I had the gunsmith check my rifle/barrel twist on my Sendero 7mm STWs. He said that both of them were one in 9 1/4.

Yup, that's right, they are! But they still stabilize heavy bullets, and I believe they would even at 1-10. lightbulb
How are they shooting now, or haven't you had much tome to shoot.
I am coming down your way next month to do a little crop damage control. I think I am going to break in the Sharpshooter, over on the eastern shore! Lots of critters there!!! ( as you well know). Take care .

I remember that Remington used the 9.25 twist in the 7mm Rem; always thought a bit slower would work better (considering the velocity range) even with the 175 bullets that they loaded.

I was just wondering what they were like in reference to temperature stability. That's my current focus.

Any ideas?

Ed, if you are referring to the powders you mentioned, I am nor sure if they are the Extreme powders or not. You might want to check with Hodgdon, they are very helpful people. Take care, and be safe.

I have new7mm STW :D Stiller Predator action, Mcmillan A5 stock, Krieger 27" barrel :11 twist, Jewell trigger, Scope Zeiss Diavary 6-24x72.
And suppressor from Danish guntech:
P3 Monopod from CTK and Sinclair F class bipod when shooting on paper
Using Remington brass. Nosler 120 BT, powder VV N165 80gn, OAL 94mm, Fed 215.
Very very accuracy load

And talking about nice riflestock :) then this is #1

GRS-LongRange

We just brought the GRS line to America and it is very impressive!

Your set up sounds like a dream to shoot. I wish we could have easy access to suppressors here!

Anyone tried H4198 or H322?

Don't bother. The 7stw needs 4831 or slower to work well at all. I personally use either rl25 or mil-surp. 50 bmg powder. I want the case full of powder when I seat the bullet. I use double base powder for the extra velocity it gives at equal pressure when I can, but the big thing is slow enough powder to fill the case.

As far as temp stable, the stick, yes, the ball, no.

Thanks Lefty.

Where do get the 50BMG powder you speak of? I am going to buy a Barrett 50 BMG at some point but I thought I'd try that powder in my 7stw for now.

Thanks,
Ed

Usually wideners, but hi-tech, pats, and a few others will sell you a keg for $100 or less shipped stateside. I had i5010 for a while, and it was great but slightly bulky(better in the 7 and 30 rum) and I have wc872 at present. I use mostly rl22 or rl25, but with 160 or 175's I go to slower powder.
