7mm STW Brotherhood - For those who shoot the 7mm Shooting Times Westerner

I'm thinking about trying some of Bob's LRX load or maybe a little lighter yet. The TSX bullet, I'm gonna see if they have anything under 140. Anyone else use something light on Whitetail out of the STW?

Barnes makes a 120 gr TTSX and Nosler make a 120 gr (hunting) balistic tip. I have not used either but have heard good things.

Another Range report with my Pop's Remington 700 BDL SS DM -B 7mm STW.

I took it to the rifle range this morning and shot this 3 shot Group ( .24 MOA ) at 100 yards with 140 gr. Nosler's C/T and Hodgdon H1000. This was the first time I shot it after cleaning the barrel so the first shot marked with the arrow was the fouler shot. This load velocity was averaging 3,324 fps with my chronograph.

I keep on getting more impressed every time I shoot my Pop's Remington 700 BDL SS DM -B 7mm STW.

I think I've got the load now nailed down for his rifle and I'm going to stick with the 140 gr. Nosler's C/T instead of the 140 gr. Nosler's AB for his rifle.

Gamehawker, I think you can put that gun and load to bed, and wake it up around November 30th. That is awesome accuracy, and the speed is impressive, given the barrel length. I am really impressed with that rifle, but NOT surprised! Pop will be proud to take that rifle to the field!!:)

Thanks Bob!

I think I'm going to load up 50 of that load and give them to him as a Father's Day Present! :)

Oh, and opening day for Deer season in West Virginia (where we hunt) is November 25th this year!

I'm sure Pop and I will have a pile of them that day with our 7mm STWs! :D

Yeah, that's right, I forgot you hunt in WV. That place is eat up with deer. The part of VA, that is on the southern tip of the shore is loaded too!
Anyhow, your Pop will be all set with that gun and load for sure. No excuses now, Huh?

Len, the STW is here to stay, and this web thread is a testament to that. As a matter of fact, I was out shooting one of mine today. The stories, and trials, and progressions that have been noted here are incredible. We have seen people come, go, and come back. There are folks here from all corners of the world, with one commonality. And as my brother, " Butterbean" said, there is a braintrust, a comaradity, and some genuine friendships that thrive , that were spawned from this thread. I for one am proud to be a part of it, and what a great Forum for us to be able to do such a thing.
Thank you for providing that.
Boy, would it be nice if we could get Layne Simpson to visit sometime!
Len, as far as the member count, wow, that would be a chore! That would only be going through 3000 plus replies! But I certainly agree, it is AMAZING!

I know I've learned ALOT since discovering this thread. Plus the common bond is nice.

I didn't shoot the STW today, but I shot the .308 with some new heavies....I loaded up some with 39.1gr of Varget, and some Berger 210 VLD's seated up close to the lands. The old 5R was ripping them out around 2,400 fps! 2 of the 3-shot groups were under 1/2" @ 100 yards. Literally 1 ragged hole. I didn't get to take pics, b/c it started to storm right as the day ended. I'll get pics next time! I'll definitely be making this one of my staple loads.

Here is why someone may be willing to put in the effort.

If I feel there is enough interest, as evidenced by total member post participation count, I may start a dedicated 7 STW sub forum.
