Can the 7max be built in a short action? And what would I be giving up if it can?

I don't know the full answer to your question but as I understand it, the high BC 7mm bullets need the long action because of the COAL. Short action won't give you that.
May depend on what bullet you want to shoot with it.
If I'm 100% wrong, someone please correct me so I can buy a SA.
If you are using a Remington action, not most clones, Wyatts now makes a mid length box for short action that gives you 3.235", so you could load out to 3.200 easily. That's right.....my COAL is 3.053 at .020" off the lands with a 180 Berger VLD-H. I'm running a long action.
Yes you can, mine is done on a Stiller tac 30, it's been great for my so far. But it's easier done on a long action I'm told. Can the 7max be built in a short action? And what would I be giving up if it can?
I have no experience with it, I would assume it will be similar to the 3.990" boxes you see in most of the edges built, most people don't complain about those.Cody - I no longer run r700 actions but seems like a good option for those that do......seems like you can get a much better clone by the time you blueprint and mod an r700 to your specs these days. Any experience with the mid length box.....does it cycle ok?
That sucks. Well as long as your action doesn't have any major issues like mine did, you will be set good. I have to say, one of the smoothest actions I have ever felt was a remington 700 that was worked over really, really well by a very competent Smith. It is better than many custom actions I have felt. However, total cost into that action was well more than most entry level customs, closer to a mausingfield action. But it is very, very nice.I thought about going with a defiance xm, and will do so for future builds . Where I'm at it's nearly impossible to get an appt with local PD for a permit to acquire... otherwise I would definitely go that route
Your smith will have to open the action up a little and reposition the bolt stop.everyone's input is much appreciated! I do have a r700 sa I could use for a donor. @codyadams , mahalo for that bit of info I will be visiting Wyatt's site soon. @Bghunter338, what work was required to fit the stiller?
Once again mahalo for everyone's input, I have trying to did up info on this myself for quite some time, felt like one of the three blind mice...
When the ball gets rolling I will be sure to post up!
