6.5 RPM

It's really similar to the 6.5-06 Ackley or the .264 Win Mag. A little more capacity than the '06 and a pinch less than the WM. All three are excellent choices for deer hunting with the appropriate bullet selection.

If making a custom 6.5 RPM, work on the bullet selection first then create your throat and freebore before picking a reamer if necessary. Or thr standard SAAMI reamer can be used with a throating reamer. Ask your gunsmith.

I'm using the Hornady 135 gr. A-Tips for deer and elk but I'm trying out the 153 gr. A-Tip on elk also. The Woodleigh 160 gr. Protected Point (80A) gets a supportive vote for elk.

The lighter bullets 130 gr or the 135 gr. work extremely well.

Enjoy the search!

Are the Woodleighs back available now, or do you just have an old stash? What powder are you running on the Weldcores and 153 A-Tips?

It's my understanding that the Woodleighs are available but I also have some from before the shutdown.

Right now I'm using Retumbo for both bullet designs.

I have a few left. I may try them with some 8133. I have plenty of it to burn. I wish there was a Reloader 29 or 30, lol. If there was, I'd never get my hands on it, though. I have a decent amount of Retumbo and some of both N568 and N570, but I'd rather not employ 570 due to accelerated barrel wear.

8133 is right in the wheelhouse of both the 6.5 RPM and the Woodleigh 160 80A. I got rid of all of those powders when they just didn't prove out in the cartridges I needed them for. Opinions vary of course since some of these powders work for some folks.

Reloder powders have most of us handcuffed currently due to corporate decision making. I have enough to work with but I sure would like some more for a buffer.

Retumbo is relatively easy to use in load development for this cartridge but the N568 is excellent as well. I have worked with Norma 517 also which proved to be a good choice. Unfortunately Norma stopped distributing its powders here in the States.

Follow up if you have time when you get some results to share.

:)
