6.5 156 EOL

Yeah 260AI seems to be a great round. I should have said rechambered not rebarreled, it's the original Tikka CTR 260 Rem barrel. I loved the 260 except for the brass trimming, which should be no longer required. Not to mention getting the speed boost.

On my first batch of Lapua brass, in 12-14 firings (some primer pockets lasted longer than others....) I only trimmed twice. Right now I am just finishing up my 4th firing on my Peterson SRP brass, and they still have .012" - .015" to go before the are at max length. I love it.

I hope to see the higher velocities. But to be honest just cutting down on the trimming would make it all worth it.

Anyone got any load data for the 264 win mag on these new 156's.
Yup. Mine are HBN coated, so you will likely reach max pressure a grain or so earlier.

Well I will be getting one of the Remington Sendero's from Sportsmans. I have it on lay-a-way; seem to be a good price at 829.00. But I just got off the web site for Remington and the 264 win mag has a 1-9 twist. So that being said I'll have to put the brakes on the 156 probably. I also was looking at one of the Winchesters in the same cal. It was a really nice gun but it was I think 100 dollars more and the barrel was a lot thinner. Probably come next hunting season I'll be wishing I had the lighter one but the REM will match my 300RUM as well. So my shooting setup wont change much. I rebarrel after a while to a 1/7 or a 1/7.5.

What elevation you at? A buddy of ours got them to shoot in his sendero, but we are at 6600 ft. Also it was marginally stable. Not exactly the best thing. The 140 elite hunter is what I would use in your scenario, you might have to even go down to a 130 if your at low elevation unfortunately. But they will be screamin.

Almost got to send a 156 in an elk this am, dope was in, elk walked into timber before the snow cleared enough for a good shot unfortunately. Going back out to a different spot now.

Here in Utah it may vary in elevation but most the hunting is about 6 to 9000 ft. My shooting area that I go out and test my loads at is usually at 4900 ft. I'll probably look at the 140 VLD's and then possible the 140 elite hunter. It looks like the elite hunter will still have a 1.58 if I could get them to 3075.

I was shooting the 147's at 3240 with a top end load of retumbo, and the 156 at 3070 with a very mild load. The 140's will do 3075 no problem

Sweet. I may look at some other bullets too but Bergers have been a favorite and very consistent from box to box. I was hoping the LRAB would of been something to try but I got turned off very early in the game on them. I think when they first can out they had some huge quality control issues getting there bearing surfaces consistent and the weights were sometimes .7 to .8 grains off. I've been shooting the ELDX in my RUM and had good results but after letting it set for 2 years the load went south and I'm not sure why. I started a different thread just looking for any good advice on reloading practices in general getting the ES/SD down really low. Some excellent information in the thread for anyone to read from various form members on reloading practices. This gun is going to be my Christmas present to myself. I was going to re do my savage but I kept seeing these 2 guns one was a Winchester 70 264 win. Great looking gun very nice stock but I knew the sendero would just match for as fell and shooting mechanics. I'll put on a 6.5 creedmoor on the savage later on and that will turn into my rock hunter again.

Really looking forward to the elk report with the 156. Another 4 weeks until I can get out and try

Well these 4 days were a wash. Saw two bulls around 1100 yards that never gave us a chance to shoot or get closer, and a small group of cows that we were working in on got spooked by some side by side riders blazing along trails below the clearing they were working out into. It's gonna be the beginning of November before I can get out again, but between my wife and I we have 4 tags to fill. Hopefully those hunts go better!!!

Any one using special seating stems for these long nose bullets. I pulled one out of the box and was seeing how it matched up to the seating stem and its has lots of room to move around. (hornady die).
