338 thunder project

If you make it up here next month to get some more chucks, you had better bring that new toy - you need to "properly" break it in by drawing some blood with it.

BTW, 4ked was in Twin Falls Friday afternoon and saw chucks running around next to the freeway. They were small too - makes me wonder how long ago they came out...seems too early for pups to be up.

Thanks, for the info GG. I can't wait to shoot it, I will try both powders. Thanks, Wildcat.

Re: 338 thunder pics

Ok, got my 'puter fixed. Took half the day, but got some pics here.

Here she is:

From the other side. The black gun is my buddy's Rock River.

Here is the glass bedding compound 7mmrhb layed up. He did a fine job and thanks again for your help! You have perfected the bedding process in ways I never thought of before.

Here we are bedding the bottom metal to the stock:

Here is 7mmrhb holding the rifle after a long weekend bedding the stock.

Here is a 338 thunder mag next to a 308 for comparison. The bullet is a 250 grain Lapua Scenar.

And finally, a finishing touch to the floorplate just for a bit of flash. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks to Kirby for his excellent work. He is a master at his trade. Every aspect of the gun looks and functions perfectly. More on this later...

Thanks to Dave Manson for the dimensionally perfect reamer.

Thanks to Jim G for the perfect FL sizer made from scratch by single point boring. I will get a pic of the die here soon.

ANd finally, thanks to Mike D at ABS and Mike Rock at Rock creek barrels. Everything is perfect.

Now for some breakin, fireforming, and load development.

Keep you all posted....

Finally, someone else has enough sense to have the bolt on the CORRECT side. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: 338 thunder pics

GG,

Beautiful rifle.
Love the floor plate signature.
GG, Honest, it is Thundering and Lighting here in West MI as I type this!

Congratulations, I am sure it will be a shooter and a true LRH hammer for you.

Re: 338 thunder pics

Do you have a high paying job or just no money? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

That rifle is beautiful, love the engraving on the floor plate also.

Happy shooting.

Re: 338 thunder pics

So it's your fault my 6-250 isn't finished!!! He's been engraving your rifle instead of building mine!!!

I'll have to admit though, great looking rig.

I know you said it, but I'll say it again. You just can't say enough about the "finish" on Kirby's work!!!!

Re: 338 thunder pics

sometimes you find something that is just TOO PERFECT of a fit to ignore

Crane, though I may have been educated in the South, I did learn how to read and understand the name given for this sight.

Now is there something else you would like to say about my post or aim at me personally? I think you need to re-read my post once again perhaps before getting all excited in side. Please do calm down and chill out a bit! The stress is not good for your life span I have been told. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: 338 thunder pics

Goodgrouper that is one "classy" looking rifle your have pictured. A real piece of workmanship to say the least! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: 338 thunder pics

GG

what is the finished weight on this thunder stick???? I am thinking about a .338 cal project for Kirby this fall and I may look into something like yours if she works out for ya. I am looking at the 338 Kahn.

Love the magazine, couldnt have said it better.

Re: 338 thunder pics

That is a nice looking stock. It has been mentioned about the bolt being installed wrong but the engraving makes up for it.

And a kind word for 7mmRHB. Very classy looking job.
