338 thunder project

Well, at first the barrel was supposed to be dessert at Thanksgiving dinner. Then it was supposed to be a Christmas present. Now it is New Years Eve and still no package on the doorstep. ABS WILL be getting a call first thing Monday morning and there will be no more excuses! Getting a little miffed....

On a more positive note: I have got all the specs now for the 6br improved reamer and will be seating a bullet where we want it tonight. Dave Manson will then be sent the plans on Monday and then the completion date should be by the middle of February. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Let us know when she arrives. I think I am more excited than you. I'll pay you next trip on the br reamer and we will discuss what your plans are. Sounds like you need to let the thunder roll so you can get the thunder together. The brake ABS is putting on I assume it is all metal or is it carbon wrap to? Preacher

I'll take either pictures or a video of the thunder with the thermal camerra it will be interesting to prove abs claim to cooling faster, also where most of the heat disapate from. There is a attachment for the camera to look in small holes I'll investgate to see how much this attachment is, would be nice to know exact temp inside the chamber. Preacher.

GG have you got the thunder back? I would like some pictures some data. Just curious. Let us know when it happens. Just lie to me you can repent later, lol. Preacher

I think the project idea is a good thing from a standpoint of wanting to build a particular rifle for shooting long range. However, I am a hunter first and a shooter second, I don't have near the skills at long range as many who are on this board.

However, I must wonder about anybody wanting to try and harvest a deer or elk at 1 mile downrange OK. To me there are just to many variables to worry about, mainly other hunters that just might come into being struck by this bullet from that weapon that was built.

I have done some long range shooting in my day at targets understand but when it comes to game in the field, I myself draw the line to 600 yards. I am not chastizing anyone who wants to shoot further by any means, I just don't feel comfortable going out any further.

I was once told by an expert in elk hunting, that one should have enough caliber, bullet weight and energy to produce 1500lbs in order to be assured of harvesting that bull elk under all conditions. I guess that doesn't hold true for some on this sight.

I have done a lot of elk hunting in my day and I have never lost but one elk during that time.....it was later found after two hunters shot it once again. So the elk never died and suffered long or was wasted in the field.

I realize that some of you fellows live in the wide open spaces and expenses hunting an elk may not be as much money to you or the time eliment involved (2 weeks for me) is no big deal. However, most of us flatlanders need to close the gap while going after elk. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
