338 06 AI shooter's

Not an AI shooter but my #1 go to Missouri deer rifle is a custom 338-06 a-square. Not much difference between the two performance wise. Favorite load is CFE223 and 186 hammers. Deadly one hole combo.

Tagging in. I'm waiting for a barrel to put a 338-06AI together this summer/fall. I will probably load up a lighter HHT when they release it. I would like to run something in the 175-185 gr weight.

I neck up 30-06 Lapua brass and go shoot. IMO on AI version isn't worth the extra fire forming. The performance difference is negligible. Especially in a short to mid range cartridge.

Coming in late, but what the heck.

Last year I picked up a LH Ultra Light Arms rifle in .338-06 AI. Wife's fall (broken femur) and evacuations for wildfire wiped ot the summer, which means shooting.

I barely got some ammo loaded in time to hunt. Didn't shoot anything.

Now I've started loading it, and have to get some shooting weather.

Delightful rifle.

And I'm looking for a RH lightweight 338-06 for a friend. ;)

This is often a misunderstanding regarding the Ackley Improved cartridges. It isn't always about more velocity.

The Ackley Improved (usually 40 degree shoulder) provides better and more efficient powder burn in most instances. It has also allowed for a broader selection of powders due to the efficiency of the burn.

The Improved shoulder can also provide a more positive headspace feature on certain cartridges when they are necked up. For the folks who enjoy using the .30-06 Springfield case for a parent case, the 40 degree shoulder provides a more positive feature for headspace.

I have a couple AI's but neither one was done in search of more speed. Can one get more speed yes one can, how much one should get is another question...

For me, I do them so that trimming is all but eliminated.

Depending on which round you're choosing to AI 50-75 fps of gain is intelligent. Once people go into the realm of 100 fps or more then they're just "pushing" it go where they want to get it to.

I learned many sleeps ago that we can make the rounds do exactly what we wish:)

Side note, I use a 338/06 or as i like to call it "OKH" as well. Mine is on a G33/40 wrapped in a Brown
