308 load development?

Let me get a grip on this.....Sierra Rep promoting 2 other brands? If I were his boss, do you know where he'd be?

I tried 166 gr Hammer Hunters in my 308 Howa 1500 22 inch barrel and my best group wasn't good enough so I stepped down to 152 gr Hammer Hunters and hit a node at 45.8 grs of Tac powder.I shot up to 46 grs Tac but group opened up so I'm good with Tac powder and 45.8 gr.

I also used CFE223 powder and 152 gr Hammer Hunters and hit a node at 46.8 gr CFE223 powder.Best load as it was a 1 hole 3 shot group just elonagated a tiny bit.
I would hunt and shoot at an elk with 152 gr Hammer Hunters with no hesitation.Moose,your choice.

What velocities were you getting with these powders? Specifically Tac?

In my Lapua cases, I am getting a little less than FC cases with most I have tried. Curious how these do on the lower end of the velocity spectrum. My 308 Win's short barrel just doesn't send anything out very fast.

Didn't get velocities as my chrony's battery was dead.It was a warm load as it was higher on my target compared to my last load with Sierra 165 gr so velocity was most likely well over 2700 fps.I'll go back out again soon and try these loads again and post velocities

I just finished a 308 18" build. Have been doing some testing with the 130 Barnes TTSX and have found a really nice load with AA2460 running around 3070 FPS and is half MOA with SD of 8. I'm going to look at some of the Hammers in similar weight and give them a go also. I'd like to possibly move up into a 150 class!!?? Have a good day gents.

Shane with Tac powder 46.8 gr I got 2814 fps but did not reach pressure but ran out of daylight.I think I can get to 2900 fps easily with Tac.
For CFE 49.5 gr 3 shot average 2909 fps and did not reach pressure.
More work to be done.

2000 MR is my go to for 308 loads when I want the precision at the highest possible velocity.

My 1000 yard load for the iron sight double lugged M1A is with 2000 MR launching the 168 Hybrids at 2800. The rifle is set up for it.

I hit 2825fps with 168 bthp using imr 4064

I shoot the 168 TMKs at 2880 with RL15 behind it. 26" barrel. Doesn't seem to be a real hot load.
