308 Load Development?

I've been loading RL-15 behind 195 TMK's and am about to branch out. Btw RL-15 and Varget though RL-15 does give me about 50-75 ft/sec velocity advantage and has always shot tighter for me. I'm about to try some less finicky options over RL-15 and H4895. XBR8208 is supposed to be awesome with 150-155's but I've never loaded such light bullets nor had great success with that powder.

I haven't been able to find any r-15 to test. Imr 4064 has been the most accurate in my m1a with 165-173 grain bullets. I have also been using it in my 22-250,30/06, and 35 whelen. Accuracy has been great in all.

Do you mind telling me how much powder you are using with the 4064?

Working on new load for 308 after new stock and barrel. Using Lapua brass, and have been using 165gr Sierra SBT GK... Wondering if anyone is using something close that that with Reloader 15 or IMR4064 and can tell me what they think? Possibly tell me where the sweet spot was for powder. or if someone has had better luck with a different bullet? Thanks for any input.

Well, as for RL15... I've found it to be perfect for about 99% of the .308's I've shot over the years; 43.3grs behind a 175gr Mk (2650 fps) it has always been magic in my rifles, they shoot inside the holes of a box of Federal Gold Metal Match 175gr. I can't tell them appart on the range. If you're just looking to test the rifle for accuracy; I recall'..., if memory serves me correct, there was a load the FBI used back "when." it was a 168gr Mk with 31.0grs of IMR 3031... they tested all their .308'r rifle for accuracy with this load. Anyway, good luck, I believe it's pretty hard to go wrong with RL-15 for your project.

One of the best I have used with the 308 Win is IMR4320. German Salazar wrote an article about the powder in the 308 a few ears ago.

My Savage 110 Tactical 308 win likes 43.4 gr of RL 15 pushing a 168gr Sierra MK or Nosler CC at 2625fps = consistent 1/2" moa.

Mine shoots 168's with good accuracy using IMR 4064 @ 2640-2650 fps. They are all different. Most 308's shoot well but which recipe your gun likes will be determined by you and the gun. All the powders listed have a history of good accuracy. IMR 8208 XBR also has some fans.

My test load for any 308 has always been 42.5-44.5 gr either IMR4064 or RL15 and a 165-168 bullet. If it won't shoot something in there then it's gonna be quite a road ahead finding what it does like.
