Retumbo works great in my mod. 700 300 rum. Awhile back I tried it in my 7 rem. mag. I dont remember the load. But I loaded half grain increments for 4 grains up to max. I got to a point where I no longer gained velocity for 1.5 grains and accuracy got worse. Found my load.I worked up a load on a buddies 300 RUM and ended up using a pretty stout load of Retumbo with a 200 Partition. Adding more powder didn't add any velocity so I stopped there, at 2940 fps (I don't remember the load off hand but it was close to the book max). This rifle is a stock Rem 700. Using my scope, the barrel looks like match grade & it shoots well with minimal fouling. I suppose we could squeeze a bit more velocity out of it but I wonder if it's worth the effort? If we could get 200 fps, maybe, but he seems quite happy with it as is and has taken several deer with it. but is itching to take a long range elk. I expect his biggest hurdle is money, for now. Time will tell but I do like the cartridge. It has a lot of potential!

I have 210gr Bergers going 3050 with 91.0 gr of Retumbo........I honestly don't know why everyone doesn't own a 300 RUM.

I've pesonally been involved working up loads for 181 hammer hunters. 1 300 wm and a 30 nosler. They both shoot the best of any bullet we tried and performance on target and on an animal is awesome. I will never shoot another bullet for hunting on big game other than a Hammer. You made a good choice. If you have problems Steve and Brian Will help.My rifle is 1:10 twist
Looks like my 181s should be arriving on Wednesday. Can't waitI've pesonally been involved working up loads for 181 hammer hunters. 1 300 wm and a 30 nosler. I wish they made a 190 or 200 gr. Hammer . I'm going to try some 200 gr. Barnes LRX when I find some. Just got some Barnes 190 LRX and Lehigh copper 175 gr. They are turned like Hammers. The heaviest they have though. The 175 LRX didn't shoot as good as the 180 TTSX.Looks like my 181s should be arriving on Wednesday. Can't wait
They do. I believe they make a 196 for 10" twist. I was like you before I shot the 181s and have taken 4 elk two deer and an antelope. Shoot whatever shoots best. But I would bet it would be the 181'sI wish they made a 190 or 200 gr. Hammer . I'm going to try some 200 gr. Barnes LRX when I find some. Just got some Barnes 190 LRX and Lehigh copper 175 gr. Thanks for the info Ronred. I'm going to try the 181 this Fri.. maybe I'll order some 196 also. My barrel is 1 and 10.They do. I believe they make a 196 for 10" twist. I use Nosler for my starting points and if I. With the hammers we wound up 1-2 gr above max. What load data are you using for Hammer bullets ? I know Barnes are the same but weights are close with their 180 and 200 gr.
