300 WSM for elk hunting?

What are your thoughts on this cartridge? Thinking of getting a Savage Ultralite in this. But not sure if this round would kill a big elk at 400 yards? Is it as strong as a 300 Winmag? Can it shoot heavier bullets?

Great cartridge, my fav bullet is the Nosler 200 AB.

My 300 WSM is pushing 215 grain Bergers at 2817. Killed an elk at 1176 yards with it last fall… though I will admit that's stretching it.
