It begins with a 3 so it is plenty big enough for elk! LOL! I think that's funny anyway.

My favorite combo in the 300 wsm is the 166g Hammer Hunter. These fit nicely in the short action without taking up too much space in the case and we can push them a bit over 3200 fps nicely. Very good point blank range capable, pretty much hold hair to your stated range with a proper zero and still capable to 700-800y depending on elevation.

One ragged hole for me with H4350.

What are your thoughts on this cartridge? Thinking of getting a Savage Ultralite in this. But not sure if this round would kill a big elk at 400 yards? Is it as strong as a 300 Winmag? Can it shoot heavier bullets?
As stated more than capable...but buy your ammo first...if it's available...can be hard to find at times!

I'm a fan of the 300 wsm. Although my build is a bit eccentric I'm impressed with it.

Built on a Tl3 long action in a 26" 7twist barrel I'm shooting 250gr atips at 2615fps, with excellent accuracy and sd's

At 800 yards I'm still carrying right around 2000ft lbs of energy.

Shot these two groups while adjusting my tuner two days ago getting ready for a moose hunt.

You get 250 grain into a 300 wsm? With that short neck, even with 168s powder gets compressed. Is that thing long throated?
Don't need 250g $8.50 bullet to kill anything, except dangerous African game from an 06 let alone 300 mag. Do it with a bummer half that price.
Just saying

No, it can be done with less, but the performance I get is close to 300 prc, less powder, great accuracy, easy recoil, enough power to get the job done against a brown bear if I needed to.

Besides, who doesn't love high bc bullets that shoot into one hole lol

I'm not putting thousands of rounds through my hunting barrel. For me I'll shoot the best bullet I can. I'm actually going to play around with some Mono solids from PVA and see what they will do :)
