Looks really good. I would stay with one of the H1000 loads.

QL shows almost 67K pressure.

I'm a fairly new QL user and when I ran QL on his load, I don't get that he is over pressure.

Here are the results I came up with in QL:

Cartridge : .300 Win. Mag.(SAAMI)
Bullet : .308, 200, Hornady ELD-X 3076
Useable Case Capaci: 81.289 grain H2O = 5.278 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 3.510 inch = 89.15 mm
Barrel Length : 27.5 inch = 698.5 mm
Powder : Hodgdon H1000

78.50 gr 2969 fps 57404 psi ! Near Maximum !

Now, this is based on my assumption that Nosler brass has H20 capcity of 92.4 gr.

Now, seeing how I'm new to using QL, please tell me where I am wrong and need to adjust things. Of course, my QL calc is a little low on the velocity calc too, so it is likely to be higher pressure than my QL prediction.

Not having his actual case capacity, temperature and burn rate I adjusted parameters by velocity only to get pressures. Velocity=pressure.

QL factors that need to be adjusted so prediction is close are:
1. Case capacity - this can make mild loads hot if there is much of a difference from default setting.
2. Temperature the load is being fired in.
3. Ba - Burn rate. This has to be adjusted for each lot of powder.

All of the above should be adjusted in this order with Ba always being adjusted after the first two. This process has been tested many times with an Oehler 43 PBL pressure testing equipment and QL is always close to actual hard data.

Remember velocity=pressure.

Thanks. If you don't mind I might send you a PM. I figured my numbers were wrong since he was getting more velocity than I showed.

That's why all of the other variables have to be adjusted first so burn rate can also be adjusted. No matter how you adjust it in the end at that velocity it is still over pressured.

I'm a little late to the party. This was a ladder at 200m or 220yds after seating depth test. The 76.5gr charge weight is missing as there was, we'll call it an operator malfunction and it ended up with an extreme amount of run-out...

Almost stock Savage 24" Sporter barrel.
Started at max mag length and worked in.
3.42" coal
Sig brass
200gr eldx
CCI 250
H1000
80°F 9mph breeze at 9:00

My 200 gr ELD-X load is:

300 Win mag
Factory Steyr w/26" barrel
OAL 3.550" (0.010" from lands)
Graf Brass
RL26 - 75.0 gr
Rem 9.5 Mag primer
Vel = 2,960 fps @ 60 deg F

guys, I am trying to work up a load for the 178 grain eld-x for my 300 win mag. I have some h1000 and h4350. I have read threads and feel more confused than when I started. any help on a good powder and where to start?

I shoot the 178 ELD-X outta my 300 win mag. The most accurate load I've found with great velocity is as follows: Hornady brass, Winchester WLRM primer, RL26 @76.5gn (3.5gn off max recommended load) COAL of 3.330, MVavg of 3203fps. Groups @ .5 with a 5 shots @200yd. No pressure signs, clean burn my rifle likes this load anyway. I live in an area of huge temperature variations and there has been no issues with the powder whether temp is 28F or 85F. This load is very consistent for me .

Reloder 26 as another stated would be a good one. H4831 would also be a good option. H1000 may be a bit on the slow side, but don't rule it out. I think H4350 is going to be to fast.

I was wondering if anyone has been having problems with Nosler brass primer pockets growing larger. I have a savage 300 winmag model 111 LRH and I have worked up a very nice load 80.5 g Retumbo 208 A-Max with Federal 215-m primers and after about 3 shots on the case I aneal the brass and full length size and now this is my second box of brass witch the primer pockets growing to large. I have other Nosler brass with 13 shots thru them and still ok. Hopefully I can get some help on this THX
