300 PRC Build

Not familiar with the PRC...where does it fall as far as reference caliber and what is its selling point

Best I can tell from Reading thru this and other intertube threads, it's Faster than a 300WM & slower than a RUM or Norma.

Akin to the .30 Nosler.

@Broz,

Will you do a real deal comparison of this one so we know the what's up?

Jeff might be too busy running his own site/business.
He sees this too.

His comparison between the 30 Nos & the 300WM is why I'm not doing a 30 Nos.

I'm on my mobile 100% of the time & these forums run together after a bit.

My Apologies if I offended anyone.

Agreed! He did an awesome job with the .30N and .300WM comparison. I do not think you offended anyone, I was just commenting that he gets busy. He has not posted for nearly a year ...

SUPER interested to see how it turns out! I'm a huge fan of the 300WM and the 215 Berger hybrids (hit my first steel @ 1200yds with this combo), and the PRC seems to cover all the bases. Read where it was designed to shoot the heavy's keeping the bullet forward in the case and out of the powder column. This caught my attention since unless you use a specialized reamer it can be an issue with the WM and losing the belt on a cartridge in this range is not a bad thing either.
Seems like it will be a great balance of power and reasonable recoil just before stepping up to the monsters (338L +) since I build my guns with a priority of hunting followed closely by shooting steel.
This and the new IMR 8133 look interesting!

Weatherby Fan,

I am about to start a build shortly, headed to pick up my donor rifle tomorrow (Savage 111 center feed detachable mag). Would I have to extend the magazine to mag feed the 300 PRC with the long heavies?

Thanks,

CTL

you will have to switch to the accurate mag bottom metal and use the 300 win mag magazines that will get you 3.750 oal. the factory dbm will only be 3.475 oal.

Sorry CT I have no idea on the Savage Rifle, but not many factory mag boxes are designed for cartridges that long, I have an older Mark V SS that the mag box is 3.850" inside OAL
